Panthers Pounce

It was wet and wild one in the Panthers Week 6 victory over the Crusaders

IFFL – Shrugging off a 3 game losing streak, the Perth Panthers chose a match against the league #2 Cardiff Crusaders to pounce, shredding the Welsh Knights 252-128 in the IFFL in Week 6.  The black cats of Western Australia make it into the League Record Book with the victory, coming in at #18 on the league’s Single Game Performance record, and advances their win-loss list to 2-4-0 in the Pacific Division.  The division leader, Hawaii, suffered a loss this week to the Venice Killerwhales who also broke the 200 point mark in the 201-163 victory.  The Beach Bums’ loss, leaves them with their own 2-4-0 record, muddying up the division race, and leaving the door open for Perth, Kuala Lumpur, or Melbourne – who both lost in Week 6, but also have a 2-4-0 record and all trail Hawaii by less than 100 points on the season.

In the Europa Division, the Crusaders’ loss means they drop to 4-2-0 in the standings, and are overtaken by their arch rivals after the powerhouse AF#11 Scottish Claymores put up a 215 point win to go 4-2-0 and with a 200 point advantage over the Crusaders.  Venice and the Istanbul Lions right their records to 3-3-0 and are keeping pace with Cardiff in total points.

An epic Top 25 match-up looms in Week 7

With intra-divisional matches in Week 6, the top two teams in the Americas Division have begun to separate themselves from the bottom two.  The Los Angeles Dragons, who overtook the LoD’s Suspension Freaks to be named the best team in the Association on last week’s Top 25, did their part to hold onto their AF#1 ranking with an 167-118 victory over the Chicago Red Stars.  The win, though their lowest score of the season, leaves them with a 5-1-0 record and a 1 game lead in the division race.  Keeping pace with the Dragons, the AF#15 New Orleans VooDoo put a hex on Rochester, posting a 187-109 win just a week after the Grizzlies put up over 200 points.  The VooDoo are now 4-2-0, chasing the Dragons who they won’t meet in a head to head battle until Week 9, while next week, sets up an epic game between a pair of Top 25 teams as the AF#15 VooDoo must face off with the AF#11 Claymores.
