Last Of The Unbeaten

AF TOP 25 – After slipping past the Melbourne Maulers (3-7-0) 238-199, the AF#1 Hawaiian Beach Bums come in at #1 again on the weekly Top 25 as the last remaining unbeaten team in the Association.  The win is their 11th consecutive regular season victory, and they’ll face Kuala Lumpur (4-6-0) in week 11 before heading to the Pacific Division Championship in week 12 for the second consecutive season.  Their opponent for the post season is still to be determined, but they are already heavy favorites, and should they lose, have a huge points advantage to secure the Points Wild Card for advancing to the semi-finals.  Setting records all over the league in a season that ranks among the best ever in the Association – right up there with the 2015’s Birds of Prey or Public Enemy, or 2016’s On The Rox – it’s a great season to be a Beach Bums fan.

The Super 16’s AF#5 WRATH OF ODIN (9-1-0) suffered their first loss last week while playing at bye week strength in the Association‘s hometown league, going down 165-222 to Eagle has landed (5-5-0), but managed to move back into the Top 5 anyway.  They’ve already secured the North Division title in that league, but are in a tight race for one of the two first round byes with the AF#12 Who Dat Saints (7-2-0), AF#14 Birds of Prey (7-2-0), and AF#32 1 Eye Til I Die (7-2-0) with a huge showdown with 1 Eye awaiting them in week 12.  In the Legion of Defense, the Association’s all defensive league, the AF#3 Suspension Freaks (9-1-0) suffered their very first loss in week 10 as well, a close 58-65 against rival Insane Clowney Posse (7-3-0) who was ranked as the AF#8 at the time.  The Freaks held onto their 3rd in the Association ranking, but the Clowns have climbed all the way up to AF#4 – their first time inside the Top 5 this year – and the two will face each other again in week 11 in the Legion’s divisional ladder schedule.

Coming in at AF#2 once more, the Fantasy Addicts’ monkeys on ecstasy (9-1-0) is having a season that rivals Hawaii’s despite their one loss.  The monkeys have played the second place team in every single week this year in the league’s Special Edition Ladder Schedule Season and have lost just the once, to a Suspension Freaks XL squad that was ranked AF#9 at the time.  They’ve set multiple league records, including placing into the top 10 single game performances 3 times and are on track to break – their own – league single season scoring record.   The Kokomo Kings, who appeared last week with a pair of teams in the top 5, has slid down this week’s list, with the Leatherheads FC Kings falling to AF#9 and the Dixie League Kings coming in at #AF6.  The Dixie Kings are joined by the AF#7 Jacksonville Tarpons and the AF#10 San Angelo Wolverines from the Dixie League, and the Buenos Aires Blue Dogs of the World League round out the top 10 at AF#8.

Teams’ PR scores have an inverse value, meaning the lower the score, the higher the team ranks – from 15 (a perfect score) to 1200 (last in every category) and are compiled by tracking 5 distinct categories (Record, Overall Wins, Consistency, Point Percentage, Coaching Efficiency).  (For a full description of each category and how it is weighted, please visit the new Stats FAQ page.)  The AF Stats Department will be compiling the rankings for all of the teams playing in Association Leagues beyond each league’s regular season, into the playoffs and all the way through to week 17,   Click here for this week’s complete Top 25 with teams’ league and PR Scoreincluded on the list, or you can check out the full rankings here, where you can really dive into the stats that are broken down by category and chart all 80 Association League teams, and be sure to follow the scores of this week’s Top 25 match-ups in the sidebar at right.
