DIXIE LEAGUE – Week 3 in the Dixie League turned out to be very entertaining, with the league’s brother managers of the Orlando Crush and Lakeland Raiders facing off for the first time.  Lakeland had the lead for most of the game until late in the day when the Crush were the comeback kids forcing a tied game, 11-11, with the performance of their runnning back, Gurley.  In the doubleheader, the Orlando Crush took on the brothers’ old man, 2016 AF Rookie of the Year Coach Wade Bodiford and his Andalusia Arrows in Game 2.   After doubling up Dan “The Polish Rifle” Mayhoff’s Austin Bulls in Game 1, 11-5, in the nightcap the old man needed some help to avoid a loss and got it from Dez Bryant, with his only touchdown, tieing the Arrows-Crush game at 11-11 as well.

Despite the pair of ties, Orlando was still able to maintain the top spot in the Eastern League along with the Hinesville Warrior who were able to sweep their doubleheader action against the defending Dixie League Champion Sanford Celeryfeds 10-8 and against newcomer Kokomo Kings 10-9. Sanford, who had been held winless this season, were able to sneak by Coach McGuire’s Westfield Bombers  8-6 for their first win of the season.

The San Angelo Wolverines are on a torrid pace this season, averaging 11 runs per game

AF Registered Coach Noe Terrazas and his San Angelo Wolverines continued their torrid pace by defeating the Westfield Bombers 10-6 in their Game 1, but ran into the comback kids Lakeland Raiders in Game 2 to sustain their first loss of the season, 11-10, but were still able to  maintain their hold on the Western Division.  After Week 3 we see a couple of statistics that stand out. The New Orleans Black Hats coached by AF Chairman Coach Crash, being swept this weekend by the Kokomo Kings and the Austin Bulls had a league low 4 runs scored on the week and a league low in total runs scored on the season as well with just 19.  They share the league low in home runs ( touchdowns) scored with Westfield and Sanford who all just have 6, far different from last season when those 3 teams were among the league leaders in all categories.  San Angelo, Hinesville and Orlando are fighting it out for the league lead in runs scored with 33, 32, and 30 respectively, and while San Angelo leads the league in runs, home runs, and wins, they are the only team in the league to have not recorded a single error (offensive giveaways and missed kicks) or a steal (defensive takeaway).   New Orleans leads the league in errors with 7 and close behind is the Lakeland squad at 6, and no one has more double header sweeps than Hinesville but that team has several pursuers close behind with San Angelo, Andalusia and Orlando.

Week 4 will be interesting with several divisional matchups. Can the high flying San Angelo Wolverines maintain their pace with games against divisional foes Austin and Andalusia? Can Orlando maintain the top spot in the East with a matchup against co leader Hinesville and emerging Western Division powerhouse Kokomo, or will Sanford and New Orleans get back into the winning ways when they face off in a Game 2 after they face Kokomo and Andalusia respectively in their Game 1’s. If Hinesville is able to pull off the win in Game 1 against Orlando then they are tasked with playing the Lakeland Raiders in Game 2. Westfield has no easy task this week as they must face the Lakeland Raiders in their Game 1 and the Austin Bulls in Game 2. Once the dust settles it could be a log jam at the top of both divisions.
