Legion of Battle

LEGION – The first three weeks of the Legion of Defense 2017 season are in the books now, and teams in the Association’s all defensive league have been beating up on each other in inter-divisional play.  In the first three weeks of the LoD schedule, teams are matched with opponents from outside of their division, but for the remainder of the season, all of the battles will be within the League’s tiered divisions as teams try to tear down their division rivals in the long playoff push.  There are rumours swirling around the league that this may be the last season in the Legion for the tiered divisions and for this scheduling format, but sources within Legion headquarters have confirmed that all plans being considered for 2018 and beyond include some version of the ‘Division Battle’ type of scheduling that has become a hallmark of the LoD.

Total Scoring through Week 3

Teams from the 2017 Premier Division have been predictably dominant through the 3 weeks of cross-division play with Shrimpy’s Sleeper Agent and Shane Rocks’ defending Champion Suspension Freaks both sitting undefeated after the first 3 weeks.   Both the Freaks and Agents are 3-0, while the rest of the Premier DivisionInsane Clowney Posse and Mighty Pats – have struggled early and each sit at 1-2.  The Defending Champ not only has an undefeated record, but they have seemed to be on a scoring mission, racking up 221 points so far this season, a considerable bit above the number two in scoring, Sacks Fifth Avenue, who has 188.  Sleeper Agent and Suspension Freaks have also each been named Defense of the Week once through these first three weeks, and have managed to give themselves some padding in the standings going into the divisional portion of the schedule, while the third DotW was 2015 League Runner-Up Sacks Fifth Avenue, relegated to the Reserve Division for 2017.

Besides their Week 1 Defense of the Week Award, Sacks also currently holds the highest posted score of the season (106.50) for that same, Week 1 performance along with second best in the league, behind the Freaks, in total scoring.  The Reserve Division, however has had a sluggish start in the standings, as Sacks (1-2), along with the three league rookies, Roxsteady (1-2), Gotta Big Defense (1-2), and BIGDOGINTEX (0-3) are all sub .500 with the Big Dogs being the only remaining team in the LoD still searching for their first win.  Those three are also in 10th, 11th, and 12th place overall in total scoring, so the upcoming divisional portion of the schedule looms ominous for them with Sacks Fifth Avenue averaging 62.83 points per game compared to their collective 27.67 per game average score.

Legion of Defense Total Sacks Record through Week 3

In the All-Pro Division, Chinese Bandits are the third remaining undefeated squad and sit at 4th in total scoring.  The Gates of Delirium are 2-1 and Battering Rams and The Cavalry are each sitting at 1-2, but all three teams lag significantly behind Chinese Bandits in total scoring, a fact that might not bode well for them in the weeks ahead as well, as the division battles begin.  The Bandits sits at number two on the season sacks list, just two quarterback-takedowns behind Suspension Freaks who’s the leader.  Just as in scoring, there’s a marked difference on the sacks list between the teams at the top and the rest of the field.  In the coming weeks, the standings may start to show this same marked difference as teams begin to separate themselves.
