2017 IFFL Draft Order Released

IFFL The 2017 draft order for the IFFL has been released, with the Cardiff Crusaders drawing the #1 overall pick.  The IFFL determines draft order by descending order of the total regular season points of the previous year – rewarding teams that performed the best.  Cardiff certainly fits that test, racking up a total of 2655 regular season points.  Cardiff also is credited with posting the highest single game score of the 2016 season: 281 points in week 5, good enough for 4th highest score in league history.

Following the Crusaders, with the #2 pick would have been the 2016 Champion Charleston, but will instead be the first of two (currently) draft spots that will be occupied by new franchises for the 2017 season.  Rounding out the top 3 are the 2015 Champion Venice Killerwhales who fell just 5 season points short of a playoff appearance last season and will be picking 3rd overall this year.

Returning teams may begin confirming their return for 2017 beginning June 1st of this year, and besides the two open slots for new franchises, rumors are abounding again this year that the league may expand to 12 teams, although last year those rumors surfaced as well and proved to be unfounded.  The League has also announced that their Records Page is now fully up to date through the 2016 season, and the League Rules have been updated with new wording concerning the assignment of draft spots for new franchises.
