DIXIE LEAGUE – When play begin in Week 2 in The Dixie League, several teams needed wins to cement themselves in the standings, or to keep from falling too far behind other teams in the league.  The Andulusia Arrows, coached by AF Rookie of the Year,  Coach Wade Bodiford, were an example of this situation. The Alabama Archers set out to show the league that they would not be the door mat that  showed up in Week 1 posting a league low 1 run score, and bounced back with a league high 15 runs in Week 2, mainly on the arm of their high flying QB, Tom Brady and his 6 runs scored, along with a defense that scored another 2, and swept their oponents in doubleheader action against one of his 2 sons at the Lakeland Raiders and then against the Hinesville Warrior club who had been dominate in Week 1.

After winning the Homerun Derby last season, the Celeryfeds are starting out 2017 as the lowest scoring team in the Dixie thus far, as thier winless 0-3-1 record will attest.

The defending Dixie League Champion Sanford Celeryfeds, were another team that needed a big Week 2 after a disappointing season opener, but it wasn’t to be.  The Sanford team lost a heartbreaker to the Orlando Crush, budding rivals seperated by just 22 miles, in which the Celeryfeds had the lead for most of the game, but fell by just a point late in the mathc.  They then ran into the other Florida squad, the Lakeland Raiders and were again put to the test and again, they had the lead until the final inning on Monday night when Raiders’ DB Jamal Agnew pulled off the rarest of rares with a punt return touchdown, scoring a run for the TD and another for the yardage to tie the game.  Sanford falls to 0-3-1, With Lakeland right above them in the East at 1-2-1, while Orlando leads the East with their 3-1-0 record.

The San Angelo team coached by AF Registered Coach NTerrezas13 swept the doubleheader weekend against newcomers Kokomo Kings, and the New Orleans Black Hats coached by AF Chairman and Coach Crash and remain the only undefeated team with the only blimish on their record a lone tie. The only other weekend sweep was by the Westfield Bombers coach by Coach McGuire, who eased by the Hinesville Warrior with a score of 12-10, and then the Orlando Crush 12-9. As we head into Week 3 things could get very interesting.  Can the San Angelo team maintain their furious pace – 23 runs scored in just two weeks!  Will Sanford bounce back and sweep the weekend and putting themselves right back in the thick of things. Can New Orleans get out of the funk, and ease to the top of the Western Division standings, or can the team from the Mouse house remain atop the Eastern Division standings. We shall see what happens at the end of play in Week 3.
