S16 logo 2015SUPER-16 -In the Super -16 Game of the Week for the opening weekend of the 2016 season, The Indy-structibles were indestructible, going into Motor City in a SimulPlay match and giving the 2015 North Division Champs a Week 1 loss on the strength of their MNF player performances, taking a 32-16 scoring advantage on Monday night and finishing with a 218-193 victory.  With The Dawg Pound and BEARMINATORS both suffering Week 1 losses, the victory puts the Indy-structibles in coltssole control of the North Division to start the season.  Indy gets the one-loss BowMen next week, while Motor City hopes to bounce back against the 1-0 Northern ‘Fins.

The ‘Fins lead the East Division on the strength of their defense, capturing Defense of the Week honors in their 185-154 division win over Geno’s Jaw Breakers, while across the division, the expansion Steel Curtain also starts 2016 at 1-0, making an explosive debut in their league

high 244-120 dismantling of the BEARMINATORS.  Their 157 offensive points scored, not only takes Offense of the Week honors, but puts them at number 3 all-time in the record book for single game offensive scoring.  Quite a debut.  The Eagle has landed starts the season in the East 1-0 as well after their SimulPlay victory over The Dawg Pound in which they were named Special Teams of the Week; they get another SimulPlay in Week 2 when they face off with the 0-1 BEARMINATORS on Monday Night Football.

The Los Angeles Super Chargers stand alone as the only 1-0 West Division team after upsetting the 2015 Division Champ Firebirds 191-161.  Arizona won’t get to lick their wounds, as they match-up with dangerous newcomer Steel Curtain next week, while the Chargers will be hoping to extend their division lead with an equally dangerous opponent in H-Town.  1 Eye Til I Die was upset in a thrillingly close SimulPlay game with the other league expansion team, the Who Dat Saints.  Not decided until Monday night, the 205-189 loss starts the Raider franchise in the hole behind the Super Chargers and SF’s BowMen, who also lost in Week 1, but managed a 2 point advantage over 1 Eye’s points total.
With the strongest start in several seasons, the S16 South has 3 undefeated teams going into Week 2.  Besides the expansion Saints’ win over a powerhouse Raiders franchise – doing what their NFL counterparts could not – there’s also the Defending S-16 Champion Birds of Prey, who put on a clinic for the league, scoring 235 points in their win over SF’s BowMen who could not stage a Monday night comeback.  BIGDOGINTEX was the sole South Division squad to suffer defeat, going down to a very strong looking H-Town Foster Kids franchise in the opening day Battle of Texas; the ongoing Lone Star rivalry now stands at 6-3 all time with the Houston team taking the advantage.
It may still be early September, but Week 2 will have a playoff atmosphere as the 1-0 juggernaut Birds of Prey meet the unexpectedly 0-1, 1 Eye Til I Die in a SimulPlay Game of the Week.  This match-up promises to be hard-hitting as these two heavyweights combined for 20 wins last season and finished the regular season as the 2nd and 4th highest scoring franchises in the league.  Neither team a stranger to the big stage, BoP has perennially been the class of the league since its founding, while the Raiders squad, an expansion team last season, was featured in an unprecedented 5 Game of the Week contests.  They’ve met only 1 time in their history, in the 2015 playoff semi-final round, a game 1 Eye lost by just 162-186 that sent the Birds into the Championship for the fourth consecutive season.  Call it a rematch; call it a grudge match; call it a preview of a likely 2016 playoff match, but chances are you won’t be able to call it boring.
