Gumbo and Grits

SUPER 16 – It’ll be a dirty south match-up for the Super 16’s Week 7 Game of the Week when the AF#19 Birds of Prey (4-2-0) meet the AF#11 Who Dat Saints (5-1-0) this Sunday at noon in the Louisiana Super Dome.   This pair of division rivals have only met 4 times before, but it seems like much more than that as each meeting over the last 2 seasons has had playoff implications.   Birds of Prey have the edge in those 4 contests, winning 3 of them, with the Saints only win coming in their first ever meeting – the infamous Tweety Bird Game.  In this meeting, it’s not too early in the season to suggest that the meeting will, once again wind up shaping the playoffs as midseason control of the South Division hangs in the balance between these two league powerhouses.  The Who Dats, are averaging just 3 points per game more than BoP and are the #3 scoring team in the league while the Birds are 4th.  The latest line on this tilt has Birds of Prey favored, but just by 4 points, with both teams’ NFL parent organizations lighting up the scoreboards, this one sets up to be an absolute fireworks show.

The S16 gets a second Top 25 game this week as the the AF#24 1 Eye Til I Die (5-1-0) and the AF#25 Steel Curtain (3-3-0) face off.  With no loss of bad blood between these two, going back to the Imaculate Stat Correction Game, both are dangerous rising league powers, and are the 5th and 7th scoring teams in the S16 right now.  The game’s outcome will likely have bigger implications for the Steeler franchise than for the Western Warriors, since the Super Bees are mired in a 4-way divisional tie right now, but either way, this could very well be a preview of a playoff match-up between these two.
