Dixie League Prepares For Week 2 In Wake Of Irma

DIXIE – As Week 1 came to a close in The Dixie League – with two games in the books because of the league’s double header scheduling – we could begin to see what teams were ready for the beginning of the season and which teams seem to still have some work to do.  The Eastern League’s Florida teams are trying to rebound from the after effects of Hurricane Irma, as are the Western League’s  Andulusia Arrows, whose Florida training facilities took a huge hit from the storm.

At 2-0-0 with 12 runs, Hinesville, Georgia Warrior is currently the Dixie League #1

Heading into Week 2 with all the teams looking to improve on last week’s performance, we could see some of the teams in the East take commanding leads as several teams face each other in divisional matchups.   Last year’s Dixie League Champion Sanford Celeryfeds (0-2-0), after taking 2 losses in Week 1, will look to take out the League’s 2 brother managers this week, facing the Orlando Crush (2-0-0) in Game 1 and the Lakeland Raiders (1-1-0) in Game 2.  The Andalusia franchise, who really took one on the chin after scoring just one run the entire opening weekend, will be looking to rebound as they take on two teams who fared very well last week, facing the Raiders in Game 1 and the Hinesville Warrior (2-0-0) in Game 2.  Hinesville is currently #1 overall in The Dixie with their 2-0 record and 12 runs scored.

The high scoring teams in Kokomo, Mississippi and San Angelo, Texas face off in a Game 1 rematch of last week’s 10-10 tie to see who has the better offense.  The Kings (1-0-1) and Wolverines (1-0-1) are the current #1 and #2 teams in homerun stats, having scored 6 and 4 touchdowns each, respectively.   The New Orleans Black Hats (1-1-0), who always seem to find a way to ease up the standings ladder as the weeks wear on, will have an opportunity to face league newcomer Dan “The Polish Rifle” Mayhoff’s Austin Bulls (1-1-0) and the high flying San Angelo team. Coach McGuire’s Westfield Bombers (0-2-0) will look to put their first W on the board this week, taking on the mighty Hinesville Warrior and the Orlando Crush at home in a day night double header that could be a blow to the Bombers if they go winless again this week. The Austin franchise will also take on the Kokomo Kings in a Western Division matchup Game 2 to see if anyone from that division can take control and put some distance on the other teams.
