The local franchise in the Dixie Football League, the San Angelo Wolverines have been expelled for what league officials are claiming was an attempted takeover of the league in an attempted coup of front office personnel. Several firings have been made by The Dixie and all members of the Wolverines organization have been banned from league properties. The Wolverines’ owner could not be reached for comment, but sources say that legal action may be being threatened……READ MORE…..

It was an exciting weekend in Nashville as the annual Dixie League Awards Gala was held at the Ryman Auditorium where the Kokomo Kings stole the event, walking away with the Dixie Cup for the league championship as well as awards for the Touchdown Derby and Coach of the Year. After parties were held all over town and some appear to have gotten a little out of hand as Nashville Police confirm several reports have been filled, including an incident involving Blake Shelton’s labradoodle and several thousand dollars in damages at Music City Burlesque. The general manager at the Hermitage Hotel was interviewed while overseeing the removal of several 2 to 3 feet long alligators apparently introduced to the hotel pool by players from the New Orleans Black Hats, and he suggested that perhaps Memphis would be better suited to the league event next year…..READ MORE…..

Fans of the Austin Bulls will have to pick between the Cowboys and Texans when football season rolls around again this year as it seems the organization – 2017 Dixie Champions – has been disbanded after being evicted from Texas Memorial Stadium for several months of unpaid rent. Creditors are turning up from all over South Texas with unpaid bills and the Bulls owner has apparently disapeared back home to Chicago…..READ MORE…..

Fans of professional football in Dade County now have a new alternative as the Sanford Celeryfeds, one of the oldest existing teams in The Dixie League – having played as the Auburn War Eagles in the 2013 three division format of The Dixie and won the League Championship in 2016 -have announced that they have purchased the rights to the name and logo of the Miami Seahawks and will be moving into Miami Stadium. The Seahawks were, of course, the first proffessional football team in Miami, playing in the All American Football Conference in 1946, and the new owners of the Seahawk brand have issued a statement to fans in Miami – and an obvious dig at the Dolphins, promising to “return the tradition of winning to south Florida football, and to always, always keep the laces out.”…..READ MORE…..

In the weekly presser today at headquarters of the Florida-Gulf Coast League, Director of Football operations announced that the Lakeland Raiders, would be joining the FGCL with play to begin in the 2019 season. It’s unclear if they’ll start the season with the same name, however, as sources in Tallehassee confirm that court fillings have been made by the Dixie League who are claiming ownership rights over Lakeland’s team logos…..READ MORE…..

Officials with The Dixie League, based in neighboring Hazzard County, made a big splash in Georgia sporting news today with the dual announcement of a total format change as well as an expansion from 10 to 12 teams. The Dixie is the oldest league in the Associated Fantasy organization of leagues, with play going back to the ’09 season and they’ve undergone several format changes over the years. In the announcement, League Commissioner Roscoe P. Coltrane has assured fans that the league will continue to “work to preserve the storied traditions of southern athletics.” No word yet on where those 2 new franchises may be located as Georgia fans continue to hope for their own team…..READ MORE…..

Municipal Stadium will be silent this fall as The Dixie League’s local franchise will be playing their games down the road. President and General Manager of the Andalusia Arrows released this statement to The Star: “Since the beginning of the 2018 season the Andalusia Arrows have been involved in talks with City Officials concerning the condition of Municipal Stadium and surrounding grounds. After the 2018 season the City and the Arrows became stalled in these talks. After no negotiations from both sides and the contract with the Arrows having expired, the Arrows have opted to move the franchise 45 miles east to Enterprise, Alabama. The team will now be known as the Enterprise Boll Weevils and will play at the newly renovated Peanut Stadium in downtown Enterprise. The team would like to thank the City of Andalusia for there hospitality and support over the past 10 years and welcome the fans to make the short drive over to cheer on the Weevils.” So far, no statement has been forthcoming from city officials on the devastating loss to the local economy…..READ MORE…..

The celebration yesterday at Historic Downtown Square is still the buzz of the town as city officials, representatives of The Dixie League, and the new Clinton Oilers team owners made the announcement with accompanying fanfare that the city has landed a franchise in the storied league. In his remarks to the assembled crowd from the bandstand, Clinton Mayor addressed the pushback on social media that some Dixie League fans have been making about locating a franchise “so far north” . To raucus applause, our mayor siad, “To those that think we’re too far flung from the Heart of Dixie to be a part of this league, I say, Missoura had a star on the flag and Mizzou is now in the SEC, and the Clinton Rebels are gonna show them that we know a thing or two about winning football!”…..READ MORE…..
