Aztecs Come From Behind, Score Win

WORLD LEAGUE – In the World League, a longtime powerhouse franchise faced an unexpected 2018 juggernaut, in the Week 2 Premier Match between the Western Conference’s #1 and #2 teams.  City of Champions was the league scoring leader coming into the match, but ran out of gas with 82 points and less than a 1 point lead, leaving the door open for the Mexico Aztecs to make a Monday Night come back and win, 106-82 on the strength of their franchise quarterback, Russel Wilson’s  226 yards and pair of touchdowns, and their Seahawk defense’s turnovers.  This was the 7th time in their team histories that these two franchises had faced each other, and City of Champions maintains a 4-3 edge in the win column,, however the Aztecs have now taken the last two in a row, and come away from week 2 with a 2-0-0 record and control of the West as they head into interconference play.  City of Champions will fall to 3rd in the Conference, as the new Youngstown team gets a win, 122-84 against Cali, and advances with their own 2-0-0 record.

Across the water, in the Eastern Conference, it was upset weekend, beginning with the massive drumming of the English Patriots by the Dublin Bay Prawns, 134-65 in the early game.  Last year’s conference runner-up, Old England struggled in the running game and on defense and special teams, along with a mediocre 246/1/1 from their signal caller Tyrod Taylor.  The Dublin franchise, on the other side of scrimage, bested the Patriots’ score with just two of their starters, Roethlisberger (46 points) and Stephon Diggs (27 points).  In the afternoon game, London Falling established a solid lead early against Jerusalem, but the Cheeseheads worked their way back into the game and took the go-ahead score on Odell Beckham’s 51 receiving yards, to pull off the 76-75 upset.  The defending League Champion Scandinavian Stars fought to the end of Monday Night Football, with the Milan Wild Boar, both teams with a receiver in the contest, but despite a late rally, could not pull off a comeback against the Italians, losing 111-105.  The upset weekend will leave Dublin Bay (2-0-0) as the last remaining undefeated team in the conference going into the weeks 3-8 cross-Atlantic matches.
