IFFL solo logoIFFL – With a Week 6 win of 260-140 the New Orleans VooDoo enter the record books in the IFFL, tieing for the 7th highest single game score in league history.  New Orleans’ win over the Chicago Red Stars leave them in a close second place for the lead in the Southern Division with the Perth Panthers who stay half a game ahead after defeating the 2015 defending champion Venice Killerwhales 167-130.  The VooDoo and Panthers are now both sitting at 4-2 for first and second place in the division, with Perth having a Week 5 head-to-head win over New Orleans.  The Cape Town Broncos slide all the way down into 3rd, also 4-2 but suffering a second straight loss, this week to Charleston.  Mexico City and New Zealand sit in the basement at 1-5, each with a Week 6 loss.

In the Northern Division, Cardiff continues their Crusade, with a 172-133 win over the NZ Saints, for their 4th consecutive victory and are now all alone in first after Venice stumbles against the Panthers.  Not only leading the division, but at 5-1 Cardiff is both #1 in the league and also #1 in total points with 1,316 so far on the season.  Charleston’s Franchise Playerz are surging, now at 3-3 and 3rd in the North, but second overall in the league in total points, with 1,153 on the season after their 228-171 upset win over the Broncos.  The Claymores and Red Stars are even at 2-4 apiece.

Most of the top teams get a statistically easy match-up in Week 7.  The Killerwhales can rebound from their Week 6 loss in a match vs the last place Saints, and Cape Town will try to break their 2 game losing streak and take over the division lead again by beating the IFFL’s lowest scoring team, the expansion Chicago Red Stars.  New Orleans will be favored in their match with the Scottish Claymores, hoping to separate themselves from the tangle at the top of the South Division.  Cardiff’s Week 7 match-up has all the makings of a trap game as the Crusaders face the 1-5 Mexico City Warriors.  Though the Crusaders are tops in the league and face a last place Warriors squad, Mexico City is actually the #3 scoring team in the IFFL right now, and this match may be more difficult than the teams’ records suggest.  The featured match this week is clearly the cross-division game between the Perth Panthers and Charlestons Franchise Playerz as Perth tries to solidify their new place atop the Southern Division, and Charleston attempts to ride their success into the lead in the North should Cardiff or Venice falter.
