WFL: For The Record

The AF#6 Milan Wild Boars (11-1-0) have already secured the #1 seed and first round bye for the World League‘s Eastern Conference.  The defending World Champion AF#5 Old England Patriots (9-3-0) have also already secured their playoff ticket and will face rival AF#2 London Falling (8-4-0) in the Conference Semi-Final regardless of the outcome of their week 13 finale.  Nothing left to play for.  Irrelevant final game.  Pointless match-up.  Not so fast…….

The best season any franchise has ever posted in World League history was the 2017 Old England Patriots who finished with an 11-2-0 record; the Cinderella Wild Boars stand on the brink of breaking that record outright with a win against the record holder in the League’s Week 13 Premier World Match.  England can hold onto a share of the record by finishing with a win against the challenger.  This is the glory we play for.

And it should be an exciting match, with just a single touchdown spread according to the oddsmakers.  The pair met in the Week 2 Premier World Match and Milan took the win by just 4 points – their second slimmest margin of victory this year.  This rematch, pitting the 5th and 6th ranked teams (of 109) in the Association, is the biggest AF match-up of the 2019 season.

UPDATED: By beating Milan in the 2019 Sesaon finale, the defending champs force an 11-2-0 finish for the Wild Boars, holding on to a share of the League’s best Rgular Season Record.  The Post Season is now set with Milan and Mexico drawing the first round byes from the Eastern and Western Conference.  The Eastern standings #2, Old England will host the Eastern Points Wild Card London in round 1 – a repeat of last year’s Conference Championship that England won by 9 points – and the Western standings #2, City of Champions – the defending Conference Champions – will host the Western Points Wild Card, Youngstown, in their first ever playoff appearance.
