SUPER 16 –  In the 2016 Super 16 playoffs, the Northern Fins beat The Dawg Pound and The Who Dat Saints beat Eagle has landed in the semifinal round to set the stage for Super Bowl 5 between the Fins and Saints.  In Week 1 of the 2017 season, the Fins beat the Dawgs again, but Eagle has landed destroyed The Who Dats in their scheduled rematch, with Eagle and the Fins scoring 210 and 202 points, respectively as the two highest scoring teams of opening weekend.

This sets up Week 2 and a Game of the Week divisional matchup of what Super Bowl 5 might have been, call it Super Bowl 5.5, or Super Bowl 5: The Alternate Universe Edition.  Either way, it’s a possible preview of a 2017 playoff matchup.  The Northern Fins and Eagle has landed have faced each other an incredible 10 times in their league histories and the Fins have the edge in that series with 6 wins to 4 over the Eagle.  In last season’s three meetings the Northern Fins took the advantage,

2 games to 3, including a win in the Week 10 Game of the Week, while in Week 13, the Eagle destroyed the Florida Fish 196-131 to snap a 7 game Fins’ win-streak.  This pair has developed an enormous rivalry tradition that’s flown under the radar in the Super 16 until now, but there’s a very good chance this GOW could be a playoff preview.  Going into Week 2 as the early season points leaders, this is sure to be an exciting game, with all the makings of a shootout where the last team with possession of the ball could end up on top.  The latest line from Vegas has the Northern Fins installed as almost 20 point favorites, but anything can happen in games like this.

In other Week 2 action in the S16, there are a pair of SimulPlay games as Geno’s Jaw Breakers visit Coach Mac’s 1 Eye Til I Die while the Jets face the Raiders, and the Arizona Firebirds travel to The Indy-structibles, with both of those teams coming off of tough division losses and ready for some vengence.  The Dawg Pound and BEARMINATORS will meet in division play, attempting to stay ahead of Indy, While 1-0 division leader Motor City Kitties is head to head with 1-0 division leader SF BowMen.  The schedule doesn’t get easier for  Shrimpy’s Broncs in their first S-16 season, falling to BowMen last week, they must play the 1-0 Steel Curtain in Week 2.  The S-16 South will mix it up this week, with Birds of Prey (1-0) facing WTF HOUSTON (0-1) and BIGDOGINTEX (1-0) getting the Who Dat Saints (0-1).
