Hats Off To The Black Hats
DIXIE LEAGUE – The New Orleans Black Hats have been the proverbial door mat in the Dixie League this season, winning only 1 game through their first 10 games. But that all changed in week 6. The Black Hats not only swept their weekend double header format but did it in grand style scoring a week high 17 points and beating the league’s brother duo, Lakeland Raiders 17-13 and the Orlando Crush 17-11. The set of wins helps, but the Black Hats are still in last place, 6 games back, and after losing the championship the last 3 consecutive years, New Orleans has a good chance of not even getting there this year.
As expected with so many games featuring cross division teams the standings had a shakeup again this week. The AF#5 Kokomo Kings (7-3-2) played the AF#25 ranked San Angelo Wolverines (7-4-1) in their Game 1, slipping by the normally high scoring Wolverines, 13-8. Andalusia (7-3-2) who has been near the top of the Western League all season, slowed down the Kokomo Express this week taking down the AF #5 ranked Kings by just one run, 14-13, in the pair’s Game 2, but not before beating the brakes off the talented Austin Bulls 14-2.
The Western League has really tightened up this weekend with Kokomo and Andulusia, now taking the top spot and the best records in the Dixie League, San Angelo and Austin sitting just outside. In the Eastern League, Hinesville Warrior has a 2 game lead over the Raiders, with the other league brother’s Crush just a game behind them. The defending Dixie League Champion Sanford Celeryfeds, who began their push toward the front in recent weeks, sit in fourth just ahead of the Westfield Bobmbers.
With only 5 weeks left in the regular season, after play this weekend, can Lakeland and Orlando continue to slow the Kokomo Express, or will Sanford continue their climb to the top of the Eastern League? Will New Orleans get by Andalusia and sweep another weekend, or will the Alabama Archers continue their rise toward the AF Top 25 by taking down Lakeland in a father vs.son game of the week. Will Hinesville be able to hold on to the top spot in the Eastern League or will Westfield and San Angelo try to prevent that from happening.
Say tuned football fans to see how this all plays out….
