East Beats West

WORLD LEAGUE – It was a showdown of two former World Champions featured in the World League’s Week 7 Premier Match as the 2014 Champion Jerusalem Cheeseheads (3-3-0) faced the 2016 defending Champion Dacusville Devils (3-3-0).  Getting started on Thursday night, Jerusalem trailed by 4 points, but when the Sunday games kicked off, they took the lead and never looked back, destroying the Devils 112-68.  The receiving corps for both teams struggled this week, except for the Cheeseheads’ FLEX receiver, Travis Benjamin, who was able to put up 17 points, but it was Jerusalem’s special teams more than anything, that took control of this one, posting a combined 36 points from the kicker and defense positions.  Jerusalem goes up 4 games to 2 in the series with Dacusville, and advances to a 4-2-0 record.

Unfortunately for the Cheeseheads, the win won’t advance them one bit in the Eastern Conference standings, as every single Eastern Conference team won this week against Western Conference opponents.  The number one Scandinavian Stars remain in the top spot and advance to 6-1-0 after beating the last place City of Champions 93-70, but the Old England Patriots remain right on their back at 5-2-0 after a hard fought 65-56 victory over the west’s number two Mexico AztecsLondon Falling beat Cali Rox, 103-84 to go to 4-3-0 and stay just ahead of Jerusalem, while Dublin beat New Orleans, 94-86.  But the shocker of the week was Milan‘s underdog demolition of the number 1 team in the West, Buenos Aires, the expansion Wild Boars destroying the Blue Dogs, 130-59.  It was the second high scoring win in a row for Milan, who may have finally found a groove in their new league.

With 6 weeks left of the regular season, no team is yet mathematically eliminated, nor has any team clinched a playoff spot.  Inter-Conference play continues next week where the Western Conference will have a chance to redeem themselves.
