Dogs Falling
WORLD LEAGUE – In the World League’s Week 8 Premier Match, the Western Conference leader Buenos Aires Blue Dogs suffered the second lopsided loss in as many weeks as London Falling defeated them handily, 113-62 to progress to a 5-3-0 record and expand their win-streak to 3 games. The bulk of London’s success was on their quarterback’s arm – 4 TDs, 402 yards for 35 points – and their kicker’s leg – 5 field goals and 2 PAT’s for 17 points – as the Falling keeps pace with the conference leaders to remain in strong contention for the post season. The Blue Dogs sink to 4-4-0 and tumble all the way to 3rd in the Western Conference after the defeat.
The defending champion AF#9 Scandinavian Stars remain in first place, now 7-1-0 after stealing victory from the jaws of defeat, beating New Orleans 98-97 on a failed Acadian 2 point attempt at the conclusion of MNF. The win keeps the Stars a game ahead of England who went up big, 118-86, in their victory over City of Champions. The win is #48 of all time for the Patriots who are pursuing their 5oth all time win this season and remain at second place in the Eastern Conference with a 6-2-0 record. Also in the East, Jerusalem gets a win, 69-59 over the expansion Cali Rox for a 5-3-0 record, good enough for fourth in the conference as they keep themselves abreast of London.
Buenos Aires’ loss opens the door for the Mexico Aztecs, who posted the highest score of the week, a 131-104 shootout with Milan, to move to 5-3-0 and control of the Western Conference. Last year’s champion, the Dacusville Devils, who’ve had an up and down season so far, even their record at 4-4-0 with a 117-65 win over Dublin and also pass Buenos Aires in the standings, taking over second place. New Orleans, Cali, and City of Champions are all under .500 after Week 8’s losses.
With 4 weeks of the regular season remaining, inter-conference play continues in Week 9 with some very interesting match-ups including London vs Mexico and a rematch of World Bowl 5 between the Scandinavian Stars and the defending Champion Dacusville Devils.
