Dixie League Playoffs In Full Swing
DIXIE LEAGUE – Week 1 of the Dixie League Playoffs started this past weekend with a little controversy in the Eastern League game. Now going into Week 2 and the second game in each of the Championship Series, it’s win or go home time for two of the semi finalists.
Eastern League
The Eastern League contest between the first place Lakeland Raiders (11-8-3) and 2nd place Hinesville Warrior (10-9-3) proved to be the game of the week with Lakeland pulling it out in a tie breaker situation. League rules took effect when Hinesville was awarded a half sack which brought their score to 9.5 points vs Lakeland’s 9, but by League Rules, decimal point scoring is not credited, so the half point was withdrawn, evening up the score at 9 points a piece. At that point the tiebreaker rule was used, and it went to QB’s total points for the game which gave the win to Lakeland on the strength of Ben Rothlisberger’s 5 points on the day compared to Jacoby Brissett scoring 0 points. At the close of play Lakeland now leads the Eastern League Championship Series by a score of 1 game to 0 with Game 2 coming this weekend. Can Lakeland maintain the momentum after barely winning or will Hinesville get revenge after a devastating loss. This should be very entertaining as both teams played 3 times this season with both of them winning 1 game each and then playing to a tie game for the third in Week 10.
Western League
The Western League playoffs pit the veteran Andalusia Arrows against the newcomer Austin Bulls. Andalusia started a little slow but as the day progressed, so did the scoring by Coach Wade Bodiford’s Arrows team. They were able to muster a week high 11 points against a 3 point showing from Dan “The Polish Rifle” Mayhoff’s Bulls. This series will likely be won on the backs of the two teams’ QBs, Andulusia will throw with Tom Brady again this week who is still a little banged up with an Achilles issue, but if he is not able to go they have a good #2 in Matthew Stafford. Austin will go with Drew Brees again in this must win situation even though he posted a sub par performance last week. The series stands at 1-0 for the Alabama Archers but this week we could see some serious action by the Bulls trying to get back in the win column and extend the series to a Game 3. The teams saw each other in action 3 times this season with Andalusia winning 2 and Austin managing to tie the Alabama gang in Week 5.
