WFL Logo 2016WORLD LEAGUE – In a stunning underdog victory, the Dacusville Devils have captured their second ever Western Conference Championship to advance to World Bowl 5.  In a game the defending champion Los Angeles Dragons didn’t appear to show up for, the Devils steamrolled their way to a 103-66 victory, ending the Dragons’ record setting 8 game winning streak.  They now boast an unblemished 2016 record against the 2015 Champs and are 4-2 vs Los Angeles in their all-time meetings.  It is the second Western Conference Championship for Dacusville, but their first via championship game after they were awarded the honor based on record alone in the World League’s old playoff system in 2014.  They were ranked 14th in the Association on the last AF Top 25, and will likely break into the top ten when the new rankings come out later this week.

In an almost equally lopsided victory, the Scandinavian Stars won the Eastern Conference Championship Game, defeating the Dublin Bay Prawns 114-76 for the right to represent the East vs Dacusville in the World Bowl.  It’s also the second Conference title for Scandinavia as well, and also the first via Championship Game.  They were coincidentally the Eastern Champs in 2014, like the Devils, based on standings.  The pair did not face each other in the playoffs that year, as Dacusville fell in round two and the Stars lost World Bowl 3 to Jerusalem.  Scandinavia is 3-1 all-time vs the Devils, including a Week 9, 118-96 win this season, but averaging 97 and 96 points per game, respectively, the two teams are very evenly matched so it should be an exciting contest.

Los Angeles was hoping not only to extend their record-setting win streak, and defend their world Championship, but also to do it in their home town as host city for the 2016 World Bowl.  They will not get the chance.  The winner of the Dacusville-Scandinavia World Bowl 5 will not only be named world Champion, but also will be named host city for the 2017 Championship.
