Crusaders Punish Panthers

IFFL – After posting the 10th highest score in IFFL history in Week 1, the Cardiff Crusaders annihilated their opponent again in Week 4, this time posting the 9th highest score in League history with their 255-164 win over the Perth Panthers for the high score of the week. The Crusaders now stand at 3-1 in first place in the IFFL North Division, ahead of the Venice Killerwhales who who handed them their only loss so far this season.  The Whales drop to second place after beating the Claymores this week 202-160 and advance to 3-1 but fall 13 points short of the Crusaders.  Cardiff and the Whales are currently the #1 and #2 scoring teams in the league and will get another shot at each other in Week 11.

In the South Division, the #3 scoring team in the league, the expansion Cape Town Broncos remain undefeated and in first place after defeating fellow league rookie New Zealand this week 196-115.   The 4-0 Broncos have now beaten all of their division foes to set themselves up for the playoffs this early in the season.  In the only non-division match-up of Week 5, #1 Cape Town will face the defending champion #3 Venice Killerwhales in a possible championship preview.

The New Orleans VooDoo is in second place in the South Division, coming off a 217-181 win over the Mexico City Warriors who drop to 1-3.  Perth’s loss to Cardiff leaves them in third with a 2-2 record, while the expansion Saints are still searching for their first win – they’ll look for it next week vs Mexico City.  Charleston is nominally in third place in the North, with a 2-2 record they’re a game ahead of both Scotland and Chicago who both sit at 1-3.  All 3 teams are within 12 points of each other in total season points which remains about 150 points back from the division leaders.  Charleston must face the Crusaders in Week 5, while the Claymores and Red Stars battle for last.
