AFFL2022 Week 2 Recap: A Rodeo In Miami

Week 2 Highlight Game Italian Wranglers 203 AT Miami Stallions 135

Always able to corral a bunch of points, Italy somehow managed 203 points in a game where 4 of their 5 offensive starters totaled just 26 points. The Wranglers got 41 points from TE Mark Andrews, as well as 15 points each from Kicker Austin Seibert and Punter Richie James as they advance to 2-0 and #1 in the ESPN Power Rankings The Stallions, meanwhile, after their race-track season opener against the Raiders,  could only string together 135 points in this one, with decent production on offense (84 points) but a total meltdown on defense (45 points) and Special Teams (3 points)

Tracy Bulls 258 AT Tampa Bay Renegades 165

After posting the lowest total score of week 1, the Tracy Bulls bounce back in week 2 with the highest – 258 points. Scoring 128 on offense, they were led again by what’s turning into the best receiver tandem in the league – Cooper Kupp and Stefon Diggs. The two combined for 75 points last week, and this week totaled 98! Kupp scored 40, and Diggs posted another 58 in this offensive demonstration. Tracy posted 51 on Special Teams, as well, on their way to the 258 point victory The Renegades passing attack was there with Josh Allen throwing for 41 points, but Tampa’s receiving corps totaled just 25 points across 3 positions and they scored a meager 6 points on special teams

Wisconsin Dells Invaders 207 AT Jefferson Panthers 249

The visiting Invaders turned in a solid 98 points with their Pro-Set offense (QB-RB-RB-WR-WR), with all starters contributing and an equally strong statline on defense with 92 points anchored by defensive tackle Chris Jones and his 27 points, but the home team Panthers bounced back from week 1 with an explosion of scoring including 72 on defense, led by defensive captain Harrison Smith (S) and running their own Pro-Set Offense, Jefferson amassed 143 points of offensive scoring (#2 on the week), led by Aaron jones’ 46 points

SoCal Gold 175 AT Sleeperville Outlaws 230

The Gold lost some of the luster from their week 1 points explosion, scoring a pedestrian 67 points of offense, 74 on defense, and 34 on special teams in this one. The Outlaws failed to impress on defense (50 points) or special teams (14), but their franchise QB, Lamar Jackson, stole the show again this week, putting on a performance that ended with 69 points.  He was joined by lead Outlaw receiver Tyreek Hill who scored 58 of his own.  The two combined to score 55.2% of the Outlaws week 2 score; with some of the deepest pockets in the league right now, Sleeperville may be in the market to make some big moves

Gunslinger QB Justin Fields has been an adequate game manger so far this season, but leads a talented group of offensive skills players

Grand Strand Gunslingers 228 AT Minnesota Gunslingers 149

In their patented Single Back-Tight End Set, the Gunslingers were slinging the points again this week, notching 138 on offense, including 59 points from electrifying receiver Amon-Ra St Brown – a player who’s name is just as much fun to say as he is to watch….with franchise QB Patrick Mahommes in an empty backfield, and running their heavy set, the Gamblers offense could only produce 63 points , with their pair of WRs and TEs scoring just 14 total points. That was the highlight of their day….6 of 14 starters produced 7 points or less for Minnesota.

Guatemala City Stars 136 AT B.C. Blitz 195

Running with a full complement of 4 linebackers and anchored by Defensive Captain Jordan Poyer, Guatemala’s Hot Tamale Defense brought 93 points to the party, with all members contributing, but on the other side of the line, the Star’s offense were anything but stars, turning in a combined 22 points. 3 of B.C.’s offensive players topped the Stars offensive total (Jalen Hurts – 49, Mike Williams – 30, and Christian McCaffery -23) and the Blitz’s offensive production totaled 121 points – 6 times Guatemala’s total – while their defense (61 points) was not stellar, but good enough to keep the victory out of jeopardy despite leaving 49 defensive points on the bench.

Bicton Breakers 117 AT Prince George Generals 182

After the Breakers looked like the Breakers of old in week 1, their week 2 statline of 35 points on special teams – thanks in large part to Braxton Berrios’ 19 points – was the highlight of the day. That was 5 more points than the 30 they scored on offense and not much below their 52 defensive points; 10 of 14 starters scored less than 10 points, 6 of them scored less than a touchdown. Prince George, though, once again looked playoff ready, particularly their defense,, with Brian Burns’ 31 points from the line and Marcus Williams’ 42 points on the back end, they totaled 110 points defensively in a comfortable division win. They now rank #1 in the latest AP Coaches Poll.

Winston-Salem Express 179 AT New orleans Raiders 152

A big week for Winston-Salem’s Tua Tagovailoa whose 51 points led the offense to an 86 point total.  With 78 more on defense, the Express left room for error in their defeat of the now 0-2 Raiders. New Orleans could manage just 50 points on offense and their 72 on defense is well below preseason expectations for this defensive group.  With their young  quarterback now lost for the season, and very little wiggle room in cap space, the Raiders may be hard pressed to turn things around for the season.

San Quintin Showboats 129 AT Ohio Federals 172

The Showboats appeared out of steam down the length of the stat sheet, totaling just 66 on offense, 43 on defense, and 20 on special teams, while the defending champs relied on a strong special teams performance (45 points, including 19 from Kicker Tyler Bass and 15 from Returner Montrell Washington) to edge out San Quintin and improve to 1-1 in a nap on the couch game. Both of these division rivals are now 1-1 in a division all tied up with that same count; each face division opponents in week 3.

AFFL Bandits 187 AT Pittsburgh Maulers 159

After defeating the defending champs in their opener, the Mighty maulers became the first to fall to the league sponsored Bandits.  Pittsburgh managed 88 points on offense and 68 on defense, but after streamlining the organization of most of its special teams personnel so their stars could use the extra locker space, the Maulers showed up to the match with nothing but a left footed kicker.
