AF Top 25: Falling Back Up
The World League‘s London Falling (8-2-0) are back in first place (AF#1) in the Association, improving their Power Ranking from 75 to 53 in the Week 11 AF Rankings after beating the Scandinavian Stars (5-5-0) 116-80 last week. London displaces the Super 16‘s Who Dat Saints (7-3-0) who slip all the way to AF#4 after going down to league rival Birds of Prey (7-3-0) 150-188. The PR of 53 is just short of London’s high water mark of 48, reached in week 7.
Meanwhile, the Association’s last remaining undefeated team, the LFC’s King George Angels RIP (10-0-0) climb to AF#2, their highest ranking so far this season as they break into sub-100 PR territory with an 81 score, also their highest of the season. The move comes on the heels of their latest victory – 137-87 over Youngstown Mafia (4-6-0) – as they head into their biggest challenge of 2019: a week 11 meeting with AF#7 Revenge of Chucky (8-2-0). Chucky climbed 6 spots from their Week 10 ranking of AF#13 after a steamrolling of the Frosted Flaccos (5-5-0) 151-61. This sets up the game to be the biggest match-up in the Association so far this season – an AF#2 vs AF#7 blockbuster that’s sure to rock next week’s rankings no matter the outcome.
Last week’s 3rd ranked team, the Central City Flash (7-3-0) out of the Justice League, suffered a wildly unexpected upset loss to the Midway City Hawks (4-6-0), 189-283, and they tumble all the way to AF#6 as a result while the Dixie League‘s Port Royal Fighting Frogs (9-1-0) move up a notch to replace them at AF#3. Port Royal’s PR remains at 102, still flirting with moving into sub-100 territory after a 78-47 win over the Clinton Oilers (3-7-0). Port Royal has a tough one liined up this week, facing the AF#23 Everglades City Swamp Force (6-4-0)
The World League‘s Milan Wild Boars (9-1-0) round out the top 5 after defeating Jerusalem (4-6-0) 113-76, climbing back to AF#5 after a high water mark of AF#3 in week 8. Milan is in a wildly exciting playoff race with AF#1 London and the Old England Patriots (7-3-0) who hold steady at AF#8 for the second week in a row. Fantasy Addicts‘ The Great Khalil (8-2-0) tied with England for the AF#8 spot after beating 99 Bortles of Beer on the Wall (7-3-0) 302-266 last week, sending 99 Bortles down 4 spots from AF#6 to AF#10; the two face off again this week thanks to the Addicts’ ladder scheduling playoff race.
As playoff races heat up in leagues across the Association, the contenders are slowly climbing the rankings and the pretenders are beginning to fall off to the wayside. The AF Top 25 and League Team Rankings are compiled weekly by the AF Stats Department, analyzing multiple points of data including record, scoring, consistency and efficiency to draw comparisons for all Association League teams against each other. When all data sets are tabulated and combined, they produce a Power Ranking for each team, ranging from a high of 15 (perfect score) to a low of 1635 (worst possible score). The rankings are cumulative, and run through all the way to the end of the season. You can see full details on our ranking methodology at the AF Top 25 FAQ Page.
