SUPER 16 – The 2018 post season kicks off this weekend in the S16 with the #3 and #4 seeded Western and Eastern Division Champions hosting a pair of Wild Cards from the South Division. Playoff football is always exciting, and that should certainly be the case with these match-ups featuring a trio of post season veteran teams along with a Texas team making the trip for the first time, as the #1 and #2 seeds, WRATH OF ODIN and Birds of Prey enjoy their well earned bye weeks and await to see who their semifinal opponents are.

The Iron Men of the East and Saintly Southern Belles entered the league together in 2016 and have both made it to the playoffs in each of their three seasons. Last year, both teams were Wild Card teams and they both moved on to the semi finals where they were beaten by Birds of Prey and the Arizona Firebirds. However this will be their first opportunity to face each other in the post season, and interestingly enough, the pair has only played head to head a single time over the last three years. That game came in week 8 of this year in a match Steel Curtain won 222-171, an uncharacteristically low total for the 2018 Saints, the league’s #2 scoring franchise. Steel Curtain though, is #4 in that category so this one promises to be a fireworks show of scoring, already off to an explosive start behind the Steeler’s Derrick Henry who racked up 54 points on 238 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns Thursday night. The Who Dats, though, are expected to have their offense running with a wide open throttle in Tampa as they seek to make ammends for a week 1 upset by the Bucs. If you like points and plenty of them, this match promises to be exciting to the final seconds.

This Wild Card Match-Up marks the first return of 1 Eye to the Super 16 post season since their first year in the league, 2015, and the very first playoff appearance for charter franchise BIGDOGINTEX. The two have only played each other twice before in their franchises’ histories and have traded wins in those meetings – a 273-146 BIGDOG win in week 6 of 2016, and a 171-128 1 Eye victory last year. This meeting, however, promises to be far less onesided than either of their last two showdowns. The over/under and the teams’ 2018 performances suggests that this might be a grinder of a game, a good old fashioned, blue collar slugfest that highlights what a game of inches the sport is. Though likely to be much lower scoring than the Steeler-Saints wild Card game, this one could end up with a much closer score when the dust settles
