World League Premier Match Week 8
WORLD LEAGUE – Inter-conference play continues in the World League as this week’s Premier Match features the #3 and #4 teams in the League – both in the standings and in total scoring. The Buenos Aires Blue Dogs (4-3-0) lead the field in the Western Conference but are coming off a devastating upset loss in Week 7, blown away 59-130 by the expansion team from Milan. After starting the season 3-0, the Blue Dogs have only generated a single win over the last 4 weeks and need to get one here to hold off the Aztecs who are second in the conference and knocking at the door. On the other side of the scrimage line, London (4-3-0) is on a two game win-streak and have passed the hundred point mark in both of those victories. They’re currently third in the Eastern Conference, stuck behind Scandinavia and rival England who have both beaten them head to head, but with the fourth highest scoring total in the League, they’re in a good position to get ahead of England on tiebreakers if they can catch them in the win-loss collumn.
These teams are both charter members of the World League and have met on 5 prior occasions, with London leading the series 4 games to 1. to find a Blue Dog win in this match-up, one has to go all the way back to 2013, although Buenos Aires does have a slight edge in the pair’s all-time win percentage, coming in at .569 to London’s .558 although the Falling has appeared in 5 more playoff matches than the Blue Dogs, including two World Bowls, one of which, World Bowl 1, they won. The latest odds on this one coming out of the betting centers has London installed as the favorite, but Buenos Aires is only a one touchdown underdog, so this one should be exciting.
In other matches around the league, the League #1 AF#9 Scandinavia (6-1-0) takes on the New Orleans Acadians (3-4-0) while the Old England Patriots (5-2-0), just behind the Stars, will try to gain on them with a juicy match against the last in the league City of Champions (1-6-0). In the West, Mexico (4-3-0) will try to gain on the Blue Dogs against a dangerous Milan (3-4-0) squad who had last week’s high score of the week. The defending champion Dacusville Devils (3-4-0) are not out of it yet, and after falling to Jerusalem last week, will get a chance to right the ship against the Eastern Conference’s weakest team, Dublin (3-4-0), while Jerualem (4-3-0) tries to ride their momentum in a match agains the expansion Cali Rox (2-5-0).
