That Wentz Well
SUPER 16 – In the Week 1 Game of the Week to kick off the 2017 Super 16 season, Bob’s Eagle has landed fended off a Monday night comeback attempt by the Who Dat Saints to not only pull of a victory in the rematch of the 2016 semifinal match-up between the two teams, but also to post the highest score of the day in their 210-124 rout of the New Orleans franchise. Led by 42 points from the quarterback position and stout defensive scoring, Eagle now evens the all-time series at one game apiece between the two squads and puts the rest of the league on notice that the green and black will be a team to watch after falling just one game short of the championship last year.
In other action around the league, Roger Tripp and his Birds of Prey came out on top, 187-124 over the BEARMINATORS in Week 1’s only SimulPlay match while the teams’ NFL counterparts also played to the same outcome. Playing at bye week strength did not hinder the defending Champion Northern Fins who had their own rematch of the 2016 semifinal round of the playoffs, beating meigzoh’s The Dawg Pound for a second time, this time with an impressive 202 points to the Dawgs’ 157. BIGDOGINTEX, Motor City Kitties, and Steel Curtain all came out of Week 1 with important divisional victories while WTF HOUSTON, The Indy-Structibles, and Geno’s Jaw Breakers will all be starting the seaon at 0-1. In the always hotly contested West Division, SF’s BowMen held off a surging, late Monday night comeback attempt by Dem Bucking Broncs, coached by S-16 rookie Shrimpy, and Coach Crash left 105 points on the bench between the Rams defense, Kareem Hunt, and Tyreek Hill with his Arizona Firebirds losing 156-190 to Coach Mac’s 1 Eye Til I Die Raider squad in what could almost be considered to have been a Week 1 must win for both of these teams; they’ll face each other again in the Week 13 season finale.
