Texas-Georgia Line
SUPER 16 – Fans from all over the league are streaming into Atlanta for the Super 16’s Week 11 Game of the Week, a SimulPlay match-up from the Mercedes-Benz Regular Dome in Georgia between the AF#14 Birds of Prey (7-3-0) and BIGDOGINTEX (6-4-0). The South Division title will hinge, in part, on the outcome of this game, with both franchises sporting a 2-2 division record, the Birds with a one game lead in the standings, but the Dogs with a head to head victory. There’s a long history between these two ball clubs, both charter members of the S16 South who first played each other in Week 2 of the brand new league back in 2012. Since that game, a 173-157 BoP win, they’ve faced off an additional 12 times with the Birds leading the series 10-3. Though as one-sided as that sounds, 7 of those 13 games have been decided by less than 25 points, so BIGDOG has usually played the Birds close, and swept them, in two games in 2016 as well as beating them in Week 8 this year. That match ended with a score of 152-150 in favor of Texas, and the latest line on this rematch has the Birds of Prey favored by just a field goal so it should be just as thrilling, and will be, without a doubt, the most important game either team has played yet this season.
Fans of both teams this weekend will be keeping an eye on the SimulPlay match-up between AF#12 Who Dat Saints (7-2-0) vs Eagle has landed (5-5-0) game as well as a WTF HOUSTON (5-5-0) vs AF#22 Steel Curtain (6-4-0) match that promises to be a shootout. Nothing will be settled with the S16 South this week with two more weeks of scrambling left and both of the Game of the Week teams still scheduled to face the Saints before the season is out, but any win this week by division teams will be huge in the standings. The Who Dats have an edge on the rest with their 3-1 division record, and Houston is in the hole at 2-4, but there’s a likelihood that two Wild Card teams will come out of the South, and so seeding is on the line with each win.
The East Division is still wide open as well, giving the Steeler-Houston game all the more impact. At 6-2, Steel Curtain has the edge on the rest of the East. and also has the potential for the best division record (2-1), but they’ll have a tough week 11 oppponent in Houston. The Eagle’s week 11 doesn’t look any easier against the Saints, so Genos Jaw breakers (5-5-0) have a great opportunity this week if they can get a win in their double bye week match with SF’s BowMen (2-8-0). The Jaw Breakers need to get a win headed into their tough, final stretch where they’ll have to face Steel Curtain and Birds of Prey. The AF#24 Northern Fins (4-6-0), are sitting back in last place in the division, but still have a route to the title with a very soft schedule against The Dawg Pound (4-6-0) this week and then the BowMen and Arizona (4-6-0) to finish the year. Arizona can end the suspense in the West with a loss to 1 Eye Til I Die (7-3-0) who can clinch their first division title with a win, but more importantly, needs the win to stey even in the race for a first round bye.
