S16 WK3 GOW: I Tawt I Taw A Puddy Tat

SUPER 16 – The first SimulPlay Game of the 2017 season in the Super 16 slated for profiling as a Game of the Week takes place in Week 3 as AF Registered Coach Roger Tripp’s Birds of Prey (2-0) take on the Motor City Kitties (1-1).  Both teams sit at the top of their division coming into this game, and each have a division rival breathing down their neck, waiting for a misstep.  In the S16 South, BIGDOGINTEX is also 2-0, both wins coming from inside the division against the Houston and New Orleans franchises, while in the North Division, the Kitties’ nemesis Dawg Pound is 1-1 and trails Motor City by less than 50 points.   The Super 16 is the Association‘s most unique format, where each of the 16 teams represents an actual NFL ball club, starting the season with keeper players chosen from their NFL team’s roster, and utilizes a scheduling inovation known as SimulPlay Games, in which a certain number of the league’s regular season matches take place simultaneously with real world games in the NFL between the representative teams.  This season has 29 SimulPlays scheduled with this exciting match being the first of the season to receive the Game of the Week tag.

Birds of Prey and Motor City with their All-Time S16 records

The Tweety Birds of Prey are 3-time Super 16 Champions and 4-time South Division Titleholders.  They have been named Offense of the Year twice and won the League Scoring Award in 2015.  A perenial powerhouse in the Super 16, they are exceedingly tough to beat, as evidenced by their league record 17 game win streak from Week 7, 2014 to Week 10, 2015.  Motor City, who started play in the S16 as the Extreme pain Ram Parts, relocated to the Lions prior to the 2015 season, and were the 2015 North Division Champions.  They hold the 2014 Defense of the Year Award while representing the Rams, and the 2016 Offense of the Year Award as the Lions.  This pair of teams have only met once before, a Week 8 match-up last season that the Birds won 219-154.  Twice before last year’s Falcons-Lions game, the Birds of Prey faced the league’s prior Detroit franchise, beating the St Claire Lions in each of those meetings.  But this is not as David and Goliath of a match-up as one might assume, the teams are separated by just 36 points on the season, and though the latest line from Vegas has the Birds of Prey installed as 24 point favorites, SimulPlay games can be surprising; if the Lions’ defense that took the field in New York in Week 2 show up, the birds may be in trouble.

There are 4 other SimulPlay matches in Week 3 in the S16, the most of any week this season.  They include Steel Curtain (1-1) vs BEARMINATORS (0-2) when the Steelers and Bears take the field, along with the undefeated BIGDOGINTEX (2-0) vs Arizona Firebirds (1-1) in a rare Monday Night Football SimulPlay when the Cardinals meet the Cowboys. There are also a pair of all-important Divisional contests between Indianapolis’s  The Indy-structibles (0-2) and meigzoh’s Cleveland squad, The Dawg Pound (1-1) in the North, as well as a double-division game when Geno’s Jaw Breakers (0-2) and the Defending Champion Northern Fins (2-0) face each other in the East while the Jets and Dolphins battle it out.  Undefeated 1 Eye Til I Die will face an Eagle has landed squad still reeling from their Week 2 Game of the Week loss, while Coach Mac’s division rivals meet when the 2-0 BowMen face the 1-1 expansion Bucking Broncs in a game featuring two of the highest scoring squads of last week.  WTF HOUSTON and the Who Dat Saints will meet to determine wich of these winless teams gets out of the loss column first.
