Northern Fins – going…to Disneyworld
SUPER 16 – In a muscle-flexing performance, Northern Fins – going south has won Super Bowl V in the Super – 16, defeating the Who Dat Saints 242-212. Led by their quarterback, Tyrod Taylor and his 53 points, the Fins played from a position of strength the entire game, including a 200 yd/30 pt day for their hometeam running back Jay Ajayi. Though the team ranked only 14th in offensive points on the season, averaging only 70 offensive points a game, The Fins offensive unit was alive for the Super Bowl, contributing 118 of their points.
The East Division Champion Fins defeated the North Division Champion Dawg Pound, 219-185 in the semi-finals after their first round bye as the playoff #2 seed. They finished the 2016 regular season tied with the Who Dat Saints’ 9-4-0 record, with a head-to-head victory, but a total points deficit. Incredibly, they posted a 6-1 record against division opponents, going undefeated in the East Division until the Week 13 finale in a bonus third match-up with Eagle has landed; they were on a 7 game win-streak when they suffered that loss. Northern Fins ranked second in the league in total defensive points behind only The Dawg Pound team they beat in route to their Super Bowl V victory.
Super Bowl V was the first in league history without Birds of Prey in attendance. The expansion Who Dat Saints were the first team ever to take the South Division title from the Birds, they went 5-1 in division, the Birds preventing them from making the sweep in the season finale. They finished 5th in the league in total scoring, averaging 194 points per game, and even besting that average with their 212 point Super Bowl performance wasn’t enough to catch the Fins.
