Milan Survives Barn Burner
WORLD LEAGUE – In the Week 12 Premier Match between the World League’s pair of 2017 expansion teams it was an exciting back and forth shootout, with multiple lead changes throughout the day. Every time one of the two new franchises would get ahead in this one, the opponent would answer, with the Milan Wild Boars finally put the nail in the coffin with a 1 point lead at the end of the Sunday games before burying the coffin with another 11 points from their kicker in garbage time on Monday night to put away Cali Rox by a final score of 100-88. That puts the series between the two fresh teams at 2-0 in favor of the Wild Boars who go to 5-7-0 with the win in an inaugural season that showed flashes of promise for the team’s fututre in the World League. Cali will drop to a 4-8-0 record after the loss, mathematically eliminated from the post season, even in the weaker Western Conference.
The headliners of the 2017 season, the Old England Patriots and the AF#24 Scandinavian Stars will both advance to 10-2-0 records after a pair of Week 12 victories. Scandinavia utterly destroyed New Orleans, 96-57, and the Patriots survived a close one against City of Champions, 110-81. With Old England in first place based on a narrow 31 point total points advantage, the race for the Eastern Conference’s #1 seed and first round bye will come down to the regular season finale in Week 13. Scandinavia draws the red hot Wild Boars coming off their Premier Match victory, while Old England must finish the year against a tough Jerusalem Cheesehead squad that beat them 59-90 in Week 3. The third playoff slot for the East is almost all sewn up after the AF#20 London Falling beat Mexico Aztecs 121-91, and with their 8-4-0 record and significant points advantage over Jerusalem in fourth place, the Falling control their own destiny and will make the post season as long as they don’t fall flat in their season finale vs Dublin.
The Western Conference playoff field is all locked up, with just seeding left to be determined by the Week 13 games. Mired in mediocrity this season, the West’s playoff teams all go into the final week with 6-6-0 records with the West’s #1 seed and first round bye still up for grabs. The Mexico Aztecs, Buenos Aires Blue Dogs, and defending Champion Dacusville Devils will all be playing for that Conference top spot in the season finale as the Blue Dogs and Aztecs face each other and the Devils take on the last place City of Champions.
