In the Super 16………With the Game of the Week too close to call before stat corrections, The Northern Fins grab this week’s headlines as they knock off the league #1 and end division rival Ice Cold Bruschis’ win streak at 8 in their 226-151 route of the East leader. The Fin’s win prevents the Bruschis from clinching the title for one more weekthey can do so this week with a win over the 1-8 Foster Kids. Across the division, the Jawbreakers outlasted the league #3 Firebirds in a squeaker that wasn’t settled till the end of MNF. The pair of unlikely wins puts both teams at 4-5 sitting 2 games back from the pack in the Wild Card race.
In the West, if the Game of the Week outcome survives stat corrections, 1 Eye will move into second place, a half a game behind the Firebirds and a half a game ahead of the BowMen by virtue of the tie in their record. If the outcome should be reversed, 1 Eye will fall a game and a half back from BowMen, who will move into second place at 7-2 like Arizona but with a head-to-head loss. Los Angeles is still not out of the running, despite being on a two game slide, and falling to 4-4-1 after their 165-153 loss to the BEARMINATORS.
It was the BEARMINATORS second consecutive victory, and although the defending champs are 2-8, they still have a mathematical shot at the division title. The Kitties (5-4) easily handled rival Indy 186-154 to stay a game ahead of the Dawg Pound (4-5), who also won in a much closer bout, 190-170 vs BIGDOG. Motor City also has a head-to head victory. To clinch the North, the Kitties will have to finish strong, as they face 3 division games over the last 4 weeks – starting with a rematch against Indy and finishing with their second game against the Dawg Pound. The Cleveland franchise has it tougher with all 4 of their final games scheduled against division opponents. If they run the table though they have a good shot at stealing the division from Motor City. The Week 13 matchup could turn out to be a division championship game.
In the South, the Birds just keep winning…and the rest keep losing. Birds of Prey clinched the Division last week, and this week extended their regular season win-streak to an unbelievable 16 straight with their 210- 165 dismantling of The Eagle has Landed. At 4-5, the Who Dats are 5 games back, but are still in the running for a Wild Card spot after their 172-112 win in the Battle of La-Tex. It’ll be a hard path, however, as they finish their season with a string of tough games against the the S16 East and a rematch with H-Town.
Candidates for Game of the Week: Week 10
Arizona Fire Birds vs 1 Eye Til I Die….or….SF’s BowMen vs Los Angeles Super Chargers – #3 vs #4 or #5 vs #7…..or, after stat corrections, maybe #3 vs #5 or #4 vs #7….but anyway you rank these four teams, both of these are all-important matchups and should both be thrilling, effecting the Division Race and the race for both Wild Cards
Ice Cold Bruschis vs H-Town Foster Kids – can the Foster kids pull of a Fins-sized upset, or will the Bruschis clinch the division title.
