Just Winning Baby
In the Week 10 GOW it was never as close as the 187-174 final score would indicate, as 1 Eye Til I Die led the Firebirds throughout the match, and a MNF comeback was not to be had for Arizona. 1 Eye takes over as the West Division leader, and moves into 3rd overall with their 7-2-1 record. Arizona drops to 4th overall, a half game back from the Oakland franchise with a record of 7-3-0. SF’s BowMen are right behind the Firebirds with a 7-3-0 record of their own after effectively ending Los Angeles’ playoff hopes in a 175-145 win over the Super Chargers. Arizona holds the tiebreaker with SF, and the two will meet again in week 12.
In the East, the Ice Cold Bruschis rebounded from their week 9 upset loss to dominate the Foster Kids, securing a 192-148 victory, and with it the east Division Championship. The Northern Fins completely dominated the Eagle, posting a 221-162 win. It was the second consecutive 220+ point outing for the ‘Fins, and the 5th with a score topping 190. Now at 5-5-0, though, it may be too late for the Dolphin franchise, sitting two games back from the pack of likely Wild Card teams that will come out of the west, the ‘Fins will need to win out, and hope for a meltdown by one of the western squads.
The Birds of Prey, continue to do what they’ve done all season: win, extending their win-streak to 17 consecutive regular season wins. Surviving their bye-strength match, this week, their prey was BIGDOGINTEX who they dispatched in a close 145-122 match. The number one seed in the playoffs, or, at the very least, a first round bye seems almost certain for the Birds at this point, but they have not yet clinched either. Like the Fins, the Karma and a Kicker Who Dats have a glimmer of hope for a shot at a wild card spot after they defeated the Jawbreakers 184-151 to advance to .500 They’ll need to win out and get lots of help from the West.
In the NFC East of our league, the S16 North, all four teams still have a statistical shot at the division crown. The Motor City Kitties are the odds on favorites as their win over Indy last week leaves them as the only team in the division above .500 They can clinch the title this week with a win AND a loss by the Dawg Pound. The loss to the Kitties puts a third consecutive loss in the record books for the Indy-structibles, but the defending champion BEARMINATORS have a streak going the other way after their 202-180 win over the Dawgs, advances a 3 game win streak, if they were to win out, and get some help, they could steal the division championship and be the Cinderella team of the playoff bracket.
Week 11 Game of the Week candidates:
1 Eye Til I Die vs Motor City Kitties – this SimulPlay game is essentially a playoff match as 1 Eye will be looking to hold on (or advance) their tenuous half game lead in the race for the West, while Motor City can secure the North Division crown if they come out on top.
Birds of Prey vs The Indy-structibles – Also a SimulPlay match-up, an 18th consecutive win for the Birds is not as important to them as the first round bye that the win would clinch for them against an Indy team that’s sneakily better than their record indicates, and needs a win to keep any playoff hopes alive.
Arizona Firebirds vs Los Angeles Super Chargers – Can the division veteran Firebirds regain their lead, and keep alive the slim shot at a first round bye, or will the Super Chargers, eliminated from the wild card race, play division spoiler in the desert?
