Flying Fins

SUPER 16 – In the Super 16’s Week 2 Game of the Week, the league’s early season #2 offense faced off against the #2 defense, and the Defending Champion Northern Fins proved defending was the word of the weekend, defeating The Eagle has landed and their top notch offense 190-160 to go ahead in the series 7 games to 4.  having scored 103 offensive points in their 2017 season opener, Bob’s Eagle franchise couldn’t get into the same rythm in Week 2, and, faced with a surprisingly explosive Fins offense, and solid defensive play with four double digit defensive starters, could not overcome their Eastern Division rivals.  The Northern Fins have established themselves early this season as serious contenders to make the trip to Super Bowl 6 to defend their title, and have a firm grip on the division as one of only 5 undefeated teams left standing.

Two of those 2-0 squads com out of the West Division which had quite an impressive Week 2 outing.  Four of the top 5 scores of Week 2 were by the Western Division franchises, each being performances of over 200 points as the West pummled the rest of the league this weekend.  Coach Mac’s undefeated 1 Eye Til I Die is now ranked #1 overall for the first time in franchise history after destroying Geno’s Jaw Breakers 222-114 in a Jets-Raiders SimulPlay match, while across the bay, SF’s BowMen also advanced to 2-0 with an equally impressive 200-162 neutering of the North Division leader Motor City Kitties.  The Arizona Firebirds rebounded from a Week 1 loss to 1 Eye, by displacing the Raider franchise from the #24 spot on the League’s all-time scoring record, turning in a 233-155 turkey shoot against The Indy-structibles in the league’s other Week 2 SimulPlay game.  AF Registered Coach Shrimpy, and his S16 expansion club, Dem Bucking Broncs, evened their own record to 1-1 with their first league victory, a 210-159 trouncing of Steel Curtain.

The only other team to breach the 200 point mark in Week 2 was Roger Tripp’s always impressive, 3 time champion Birds of Prey,  came out ahead of WTF HOUSTON in an all-important South Division match-up 207-179.  The Birds will share the division lead with 2-0 BIGDOGINTEX who defeated the struggling Who Dat Saints 171-145.  Both the New Orleans and Houston franchises are starting the season in an 0-2 hole.  The Jaw Breakers and Indy-structibles are down in that hole with them, none of those teams having captured their first win yet.  The last winless franchise in the Super 16 this season are the BEARMINATORS who fell in a division battle with meigzoh’s Dawg Pound, 159-119 who advance to 1-1 to challenge Motor City for North Division control.
