Dueling Seconds
The AF#2 London Falling (6-1-0), second place in the World League‘s Eastern Conference, suffered a stunning defeat last week to the Western Conference leader, Mexico (5-2-0) in a 67-69 slug-match that was the lowest scoring single game performance by London in 21 weeks. The Falling slipped out of their top ranking, slipping down to the second best ranked team in the Association, and they’ll have to rebound quickly and turn on the scoring this week to regain it, as they face the Western Conference #2 and 2018 League Runner-Up AF#10 City of Champions (4-3-0) Captained by a 2019 Pro Bowl Coach, CoC is coming off of an absolute trouncing of Dublin Bay (1-6-0) in Week 7, 152-82 and has been in the 150 point performance range 3 times this season.
Historically, London has dominated the series, winning 5 of 7 all-time meetings between the two teams, but the pair are very evenly matched right now. Each team is sitting at a strong 2nd place in their respective Conferences and are the #1 and #2 scoring clubs in the league. City of Champions has posted 823 total points so far this year, for a 117.66 point per game average, and London has edged just past them with 831 points and a 118.72 average. Though it’s a battle of second place teams, it could very well be a preview of this year’s World Bowl, and the bookies have the spread set incredibly close.
