Caged Birds
SUPER 16 – There was no last second call overturned and no ten second runoff, but the Super 16 Week 3 Game of the Week between the Motor City Kitties and Birds of Prey was just as exciting as its SimulPlay partner game between the Lions and Falcons. The outcome, however was different, as the Kitties pulled off the upset over Roger Tripp’s Birds 199-165. An exciting match throughout, at times on Sunday, separated by just 0.50 points. It was Motor City’s hometeam players that, appropriately, made all the difference, besting Birds of Prey’s Falcon players by 133 – 65 total points on the teams’ scores. Special Teams have been one of Motor City’s strengths so far this season, as one of the scoring leaders in the category, and they made a huge impact this week as well considering BoP’s 3 combined points from the Kicker and Team Defense position compared to the Kitties’ 33 points.
The win puts the Kitties in sole control of the S16 North after The Indy-structibles just sneaked by meigzoh’s The Dawg Pound, 186-173, leaving the Honolulu Blue-Cats as the only 2 win team in the division. The BEARMINATORS were demolished 198-159 in their SimulPlay Game against Steel Curtain, and now, three weeks in, are still hunting for their first win of the season. Steel Curtain’s win, ties the East Division up into a real barnburner already this early in the season, as Geno’s Jaw Breakers awoke from their 8 week slump to beat the defending Champ Northern Fins 216-153. The last time the S16’s Jets franchise scored over 200 points was also their last win, in Week 7 of the ’16 season vs BEARMINATORS, but this win is an all important Divisional victory, giving an edge to their 1-2 record. The Fins are now 2-1, as is Steel Curtain. Eagle has landed played in one of the most thrilling matches of the week but couldn’t hold on for the win, falling to 1 Eye Til I Die 153-157 to slip to 1-2 on the season.
In the South Division, the Birds fall to a 2-1 record with their Game of the Week loss while BIGDOGINTEX also falls to 2-1 after being demolished 165-232 in their own SimulPlay Game to the Arizona Firebirds on Monday Night Football. Bringing up the rear, the Who Dat Saints have come out of their sluggish start, picking on WTF HOUSTON 212-170 to get their first win of the season, while Houston still searches for theirs.
In the high scoring West, Coach Mac’s Raider franchise remain 3-0 after squeaking out a win against Eagle has landed, but so are SF’s Bowmen who posted their second straight 200+ point game in their 222-173 victory over division rival Shrimpy’s Dem Bucking Broncs. The S16 West is collectively the highest scoring division in the league right now, accounting for a combined 2316 points through the first 3 weeks of 2017, setting up an all out war in Week 4 when the four of them will all meet in SimulPlay Divisional match-ups.
