AFFL Week 9 Highlight Game
The league leading AF#13 Henderson Gamblers (6-2-0) continue to be the stars of the league, being featured in the AFFL Highlight Game for a third consecutive week, as they not only continue to win, but do so against top ranked opponents. This week it’s a game of high stakes poker as the AF#32 San Quentin Showboats (6-2-0) steam into town with control of the AF West Division on the line. Besides these clubs’ matching overall records, their division charts are equally strong as well, with Henderson holding a 4-0 division record and San Quintin just behind them at 3-1. UPDATE: Thanks to a Monday night defensive performance by Jabrill Peppers (30 points), San Quentin pulled off a comeback upset of the AF#12 Gamblers and have taken control of the West Division with a 1 game advantage. Sitting at 7-2-0, the Showboats are in the dirver’s seat with Henderson, 6-3-0 right behind them. The SoCal Gold (4-3-0) is still mathematically in the chase despite their week 9 loss.
In the East, Sleeperville and New York each pulled off upsets vs Miami and Pittsburgh, and along with Kokomo’s win – their third straight – have managed to set the division up to be anyone’s for the taking. The Maulers (6-3-0) and Stallions (6-3-0) still enjoy a 2 game edge, with Miami currently owning the tiebreaker, but the bottom teams look to be getting hot.
The South Division seems to be Raleigh’s to lose, sitting at 7-2-0 and riding a 6 game win streak. Siloam Springs (6-3-0) managed to keep pace with a week 9 win, but Orlando’s loss to the bottom feeder Raiders puts them 2 games back at 5-4-0.
The once hot International Division continues to be a circular firing squad with Italy, Bicton, B.C., and tracy all sitting just over .500 with 5-4-0 records.
