AFFL 2022 Update #001: Entry Fees
Hi guys, I hope everyone enjoyed the Super Bowl….despite the outcome, grrrrr, lol…and I hope everyone’s having a great year. The AFFL 2022 season officially begins on April 1st – April Fool’s Day appropriately enough. That’s just around the corner, and with the NFL offseason already getting hot with the Wilson trade, it’s time to start looking to our own offseason, so this will be the first League Update of the 2022 season.
First, the League Calendar has been updated for 2022. The most important change being the Spring Signing Period has been extended (originally April 1-30, it is now April 1 – May 15). (The League Calendar has a link on the League Page and is also displayed on the Contract Rules Page and the League Rules Page)
The league has been renewed for 2022 on myfantasyleague.com, it may require you to reconnect to your team or something next time you visit. Contract info has not yet been updated or cycled for the new season either on the MyFantasyLeague site or on our Contract Data Sheet. I’ll be getting to that this month.
I’m in the process of updating the League Rules. If you go to the page, you’ll see a few sections blocked out (I’m still working on those) and then you’ll see rules updates in GREEN TEXT.
In the section of the rules on entry fees and payouts, the old rules (screenshots attached) were overly complicated with the splitting up of the entry fees and the hosting fees then dividing it up into 2 prize pools…….so I’ve simplified everything and made the rules nice and simple: “entry fee is $X – prize pool of $X is created – hosting fees are $X and they’re subtracted from the prize pool”……”prize pool is paid to x, y, and z” (actual details below)
Entry fees remain $60….I know I mentioned them going up to $63, that was to make the Coach of the Year prize an annual thing, but we’ve reworked the prize structure to keep it at $60. The Competition Committee decides on the pay out structure every year…the first two years they made no changes, but this year they changed things up a bit. You can see the details in the League Rules, but here’s the rundown:
- Entry Fee = $60 x 20 teams = $1200 prize pool
- Hosting Fees = $69.95……$1200 – $69.95 = $1130.05
- $1130.05 will be paid out as:
- 1st Place (League Champion) $430.00(US)
- 2nd Place(League Runner-Up) $200.00(US)
- 3rd Place $150.00 (US)
- 4th Place $120.00 (US)
- 5th Place $80.00 (US)
- 6th Place $60.00 (US)
- 7th Place $30.00 (US)
- 8th Place $0.05 (US)
- $60.00 Coach of the Year
You’ll notice that the scoring prizes are gone. That’s because there’s a NEW SEPARATE scoring prize contest with its own entry fee. The entry fee for this is $15, BUT participation is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. This way, only the teams that think they have a shot at winning can take the risk. Teams that want to participate can submit an extra $15 into the regular leaguesafe account, and they can do this at a separate time than their entry fees, up to week 2 of the regular season. Then, the way it works is an 18 week total points race among all teams that paid the extra fee. Even if teams are on bye weeks or eliminated, the system will still score them if they set a line up. Winner will take the entire prize pool. Email me with questions.
I’ve also changed the wording in the rules on the April 1 deadline. Instead of an April 1st payment deadline, I’ve made April first the opening payment date and put the deadline at the end of the month on April 30. I’ll open the 2022 LeagueSafe account before that to start accepting payments, but I want to get the contract stuff updated though, and then once each franchise makes their payment, they’ll receive the links to the updated Contract Data Sheet so they can start forming their plans for 2022. Remember, contract signing is only April1-May15, so be sure to pay early so you have time to manage your team. No extensions will be given.
Also, once I set up the account and send out an update announcing it, teams will only receive league update emails once they’ve paid. If you have problems making the deadline, but intend to return, get with me so we can set something up and you can start working on your team management. If you plan to not return for 2022, please let me know so I can try to find a new owner. I will begin actively advertising any unpaid franchises by around April 20th or so, and on May 1st they will be officially up for grabs.
Don’t forget, you can always go to the League Page for updated info…my plan is to utilize that league page for updates and communication much more this season. Contract rule updates and LeagueSafe info will be in the next update, ya’ll have a good weekend.
Oh, also, one of you asked me about a rule change at the end of last year, and I don’t remember who or which rule change, so please email me about any request you have for changes (or if you didn’t email me, but have an idea, now’s the time to come with it.)
