AFFL 2022 Season Update #010: Cut Week; Late Rules Change Proposal VOTE
Cut Week is finally here! And that means the draft and then the 2022 AFFL season is right around the corner. More info on Cut Week in a second, but first…..
Rule Change Proposal
I’ve had a franchise ask me if they could make a rules proposal…..normally I wouldn’t allow a rule proposal this late, as we’re heading toward the offseason finish line, but I’m going to allow this one and put it to a league vote. First, some context on the proposal.
- One of the things the Comp Comt looked at this offseason was ways to bring defensive scoring up a little bit more to put it on par with the offense
- Two of the things we looked at were raising the Safety position maximum to 2 safeties and also at raising the number of IDP starters from 5 to 6
- We ended up approving the 2 safety rule, but decided to put off the 6 IDP players till next season
- After the rule change was decided on, when I was updating the rules page, I accidentally listed 6 IDP starters by mistake as a new roster rule.
- Two different franchises asked me about that rule, and I explained I had entered it accidentally, and then fixed it – I think it was up (with the wrong info) for a couple of weeks
- A THIRD franchise has just contacted me after i released the Rules Revision Guide to ask why it went back to 5 IDPs (he had seen it when I had 6 IDP starters listed in the rules, also), I explained what happened to him.
- That same franchise then asked me “since you always say, email you with any rules ideas,”…..he asked if he could propose the 6 IDPs as a rule change
- Because of all of the above, and because after working through everyone’s rosters these past few weeks, I think there’s enough defensive depth to support it, I’ve allowed the rules proposal to be put up to league vote
- We currently have 19 franchises (no Bandits), so 10 is a simple majority
- I’m going to allow the Proposal for 6 IDP starters (instead of 5) to pass with a MINIMUM of 12 YES votes
- Please vote ASAP on this
- Go to myfantasyleague and find the League poll (under “Communications” to vote on this, and please do so right away so that we can resolve the issue quickly
Which brings us back to the Cut Week update:
- The Cut Cap of $234.365m has been put into place
- Drop Privileges have now been enabled for all franchises
- Players that are cut cannot be returned, so make sure you know what you’re doing when you pull the trigger
- Both Contract and Non Contract players can be cut
- 100% of those players salaries will be returned to team when player is cut
- 50% of contract player’s 2022 salary will be charged as dead money after Cut Day, and 50% of all future money will be charged as dead money in those seasons
- Both Contract and Non Contract players can be kept as Keepers for the upcoming season
- At the end of Cut Day – Sunday, August 28 – all team rosters on MFL must show that they are at or below the Cut Cap and at or below the contract year cap
- On Myfantasyleagu, click on Franchise Page (bottom menu)
- Look at your team roster below your team logo
- At the bottom of your roster, in white lettering against a blue background, the system tracks your Roster Salary Total, Contract year total, and how much cap space you have
- This is the place where you have to have your total below the Cut Cap amount; as you cut players, you can watch your totals change
- Franchises not in compliance will be placed into compliance by the Comp Commt
- Restructures must be complete by Sunday also
- But because I have to process them, please don’t wait till the last minute
- Final PreSeason Trading deadline will be Friday so that counter offers can go through
- Also, the 2022 open scheduling period is now over, I’ll get everything updated, randomize the remaining open dates, and post the schedule asap
