AF Top 25: Who Dat!
In week 13, the Who Dat Saints defeated their biggest rival, AF#26 Birds of Prey (9-4-0) in their season finale to finish 10-3-0 and clinch the Super 16’s #1 playoff seed and first round bye. The top finish improved their Power Rating (PR) by 11 pooints from 73 to 62, enough to move once more into the AF#1 spot for their 3rd time this season. They’ll need all the momentum they can get from it going into the Week 15 Semi Finals as they prepare to face 1 Eye Til I Die (8-6-0) who posted the highest score of any team all season in the S16 in their 267-163 upset Wild Card win over rival SF BowMen (8-4-0).
Last week’s number 1, the World League‘s London Falling (8-5-0) is currently locked in a Wild Card Overtime battle with rival AF#6 Old England Patriots (11-3-0) that it looks like it will lose. The teams finished their Week 15 Wild Card showdown with a 115-117 score that London is on the short side of, hoping for a stat correction to give them a boost. If the score stands, their season will be over and their 82 PR will be locked into place which may still give them enough to finish in the Top 5. Without a stat correction, England will be facing AF#5 Milan Wild Boars (11-2-0) in the WFL Eastern Conference Championship Game this week.
Rounding out the top 3, Leatherheads Fantasy Conference AF#3 King George Angels RIP (13-1-0) finished out their regular season with a win but saw their PR drop from 65 to 88 largely due to AF#19 Revenge of Chucky’s (10-4-0) monster 137-78 finale win over 2018 Champion Kokomo Kings. The two are all set to face each other in the Leatheheads Championship which is a best of 3 series beginning in Week 15. AF Rankings and the Playoffs
The AF Top 25 and League Team Rankings are compiled weekly by the AF Stats Department, analyzing multiple points of data including record, scoring, consistency and efficiency. The way the rankings handle the Fantasy Playoffs is to score playoff teams under all of those same parameters, giving playoff BYE teams credit for half a win and freezing all teams coaching efficiency ratings. Teams that do not make the playoffs have their Power Ratings frozen at the end of their league’s regular season, and teams that are eliminated from the playoffs have theirs frozen in the week they’re eliminated, and then all PRs across the Association are ranked together to draw comparisons for all Association League teams against each other. The rankings are cumulative, and run through all the way to the end of the season, so teams like London, that accumulated a very high PR, have a strong chance of finishing near the top even after beinig eliminated. You can see full details on our ranking methodology at the AF Top 25 FAQ Page.
You can find an updating scoreboard for all Playoff Games and all Top 25 team statuses on the right sidebar of the Top 25 Page and also this week, on the AF Homepage (accessible by clicking the tab on right if you’re viewing on a mobile device).
Many of the Top 25 or other playoff teams have been nominated by their peers to be placed on the 2020 Pro Bowl Ballot, released this week. For the first time ever teams are being allowed to vote for the full slate of 6 Pro Bowl Tournament teams. Gone is the “1st, 2nd, and 3rd Selection” criteria as well as the weighted ballot. Voting teams now get to vote for all 6 teams they want to see as Tournament Starters, and also get to vote for a “Captain” which gives that team an additional vote in the vote count. Be sure to check out this year’s nominees by clicking the link above and voting for your favorites.
