AF Top 25: London Still The Best

The World League’s London Falling (6-0-0) once again comes in at AF#1 on the latest AF Top 25 after their Week 6 hexing of the New Orleans VooDoo, 120-68.  The Falling improved their Power Ranking from the entry of 72 last week all the way to 48just three teams (Los Angeles Dragons, Suspension Freaks, and Hawaii Beach Bums) have ever posted a PR that high or higher in the 2 years since the Association’s current ranking formula debuted.  In anticipation of the ranking, the World League this week moved London’s scheduled game against Mexico (4-2-0) to a primetime timeslot where they’ll be featured as the WFL Premier Match of Week 7 (Rock The Teocalli).

Right behind London, the Super 16’s Who Dat Saints (5-1-0) improved from a 94 Power Ranking to a 57,  close on London’s heels as they climb from AF#3 to AF#2 after running through the AF#9 SF’s BowMen 254-177 in the S16’s Game of the Week (Arch-Rivals).   The only blemish on the Saints’ record is a Week 1, stat-corrected loss to division rival WTF HOUSTON by just a single point and they are currently outscoring the league average by 126% (for perspective, SF BowMen is number 2 in the Super 16 in that category and is outpacing the rest of the league by just 112%).  They’ll face 2018 League Runner-Up 1 Eye Til I Die (4-2-0) in week 7.

Rounding out the Top 3, also moving up 1 spot from the Week 6 rankings to AF#3 is the Leatherheads Fantasy Conference leader King George Angels (6-0-0), posting a 91 Power Ranking – the only other team this week with a sub-100 rating.  They lead the LFC in both touchdowns (42) and sacks (19), while #2 in the league in those two categories is all the way down at totals of  34 and 15, respectively.  The Angels are scoring a per game average of 109 points per game against the league average of just 87 points per game, and are in fact the only franchise in the LFC to even post an average above 100 points.

The AF Top 25 and League Team Rankings are compiled weekly and analyze multiple points of data including record, scoring, consistency and efficiency to draw comparisons of all 109 Association League teams against each other across league boundaries, regardless of format.  When all data sets are tabulated and combined, they produce a Power Ranking for each team, ranging from a high of 15 (perfect score) to a low of  1635 (worst possible score).  The rankings are cumulative, and run through all the way to the end of the season.  You can see full details on our ranking methodology at the AF Top 25 FAQ Page.

There are just 4 undefeated teams left in the field of 109 – London and King George, and the AF#4 Port Royal Fighting Frogs (6-2-0) of the Dixie League, along with the AF#5 Milan Wild Boars (6-0-0) of the World League.  Port Royal is currently the highest ranked team in the Association coached by an AF League rookie and should have their hands full this week facing off with 2018 Dixie Champ and AF#20 Kokomo Kings (5-1-0).  Milan, meanwhile, is chomping at the bit for their Week 12 date with London.  If the two manage to remain unbeaten up to that point, it would be the biggest match-up in Association history.

This early in the season, there’s still lots of voltility in the Top 25.  Only Milan and AF#15 Henderson Gamblers (5-1-0) held fast to their Week 6 rankings, while the biggest movers include the ever-dangerous Birds of Prey (4-2-0) who climbed 15 spots to land at AF#21 along with the Justice League’s Central City Flash (4-2-0) who climbed 13 spots to AF#7 overtake league rival Park City (5-1-0) who fell out of last week’s number 2 spot.
