SUPER 16 – Nobody saw this coming, but the Super 16’s Jets franchise, Geno’s Jaw Breakers are now 3-2-0 and in control of the East Division after an upset victory over AF#20 Steel Curtain 217-161 in the Week 5 Game of the Week.  The game was practically over before it began, with the Jaw Breakers scoring double digits in 11 of 15 starting positions – 20+ points at 5 positions – against a Steeler squad that never got off the ground.   Scoring 6 total touchdowns, including one on defense, along with 598 all purpose yards, the win marks the third in a row for the Jaw Breakers, who have now swept all three of their division rivals.

Each of the Jaw Breakers’ three victories this year has surpassed the 200 point mark to put the Gang Green in the pilot’s seat in the S16 East.  The Jaw Breaking Jets are now ranked 5th in the league both in the standings as well as in total scoring, and have outscored opponents in their last three games by a combined 647-450 points.  The sweep of division wins will likely be huge down the line, as Steel Curtain’s loss, leaves them with their own 3-2-0 record, along with the Northern Fins, who beat Eagle has landed 172-155 to advance to 3-2-0 as well.  Steel Curtain and the Fins will face each other in Week 6, so only one of those two will advance their record.  Eagle has landed must try to right their 1-4-0 record with a match against the AF#8 Arizona Firebirds who suffered a devastating Week 5 upset loss to Shrimpy’s Bucking Broncs.  The Jaw Breakers, meanwhile have an interesting Week 6, facing the expansion Broncs who have scored exactly 1 point less than they have on the season, but are struggling with a 2-3-0 record.

The bloody War for the West continues as Week 5’s absolute biggest matchup in the Association saw the last undefeated team in the league, Coach Mac’s AF#15 1 Eye Til I Die faced off with their cross bay rival, AF#6 SF’s BowMen.  Easily the two best teams in the league at this point, with the #1 and #2 rankings to prove it, this game saw a combined 451 points go up onto the scoreboard, with the BowMen ultimately coming out on top 245-205 to reclaim #1 overall in the league and division.  The performance was good enough to put the San Francisco Archers into the League Record Book at #14 on the all-time single game scoring record.  Back in first place with a 4-1-0 record, it’s an all-important head to head win over 1 Eye, who are now also 4-1-0, with the Firebirds slipping to 3-2-0 thanks to the Broncs.  This Western race should stay hot all season, with the cross bay rivals meeting up for a rematch in just 2 weeks.

The South Division rivalry between AF#25 Birds of Prey and the Who Dat Saints is starting to heat up as well.  The Birds are now established as third overall in the league behind Bowmen and 1 Eye after defeating WTF HOUSTON, 196-177 to advance to their own 4-1-0 record, while Houston lingers in the basement at 1-4-0.  BIGDOGINTEX dropped one in Week 5, losing to meigzoh’s Dawg Pound, 128-172 and slipping into third in the division as a result, with a 2-3-0 record.   After starting the season 0-2, the Who Dats have now won 3 in row after dispatching The Indy-structibles, 169-101, and are ranked 4th overall in the league right behind their rival Birds; the two will face each other for the first time this season in Week 7, after each of them has a monster obsticle in their Week 6 opponents.

The North Division remains a cat and dogfight.  Dawg Pound’s victory over BIGDOG leaves them with a 3-2-0 record, but they are still behind the 3-2-0 Motor City Kitties who barely escaped a scare in Chicago, beating the BEARMINATORS by just 149-143.  The Chicago franchise continues to look for their first win this season, while the Indy club, just above them in the standings, isn’t faring much better with just their single win.  As it has for the last couple of seasons, the North Division is shaping up to be a contest between Dawg Pound and Motor City who will not play each other untill Week 10 and then will close out the season in Week 13 in what could be a de facto Division Championship game.
