AF Top 25: London Falls; Saints Risen

Riding the coattails of their 6th straight victory, 246-229 over 1 Eye Til I Die (4-3-0) the Super 16‘s Who Dat Saints (6-1-0) have moved into AF#1 as the highest ranked team in the Association.  With their Power Rank of 32 in the Week 8 Top 25, the Who Dats have broken the Association’s PR record – previously 34, set by the Hawaiian Beach Bums in Week 11, 2018.  A perfect score would be 16, and these Who Dats look almost perfect.

Their only loss of the season was a 1 point stat-corrected defeat by division rival WTF HOUSTON (4-3-0) 176-177, which was also, coincidentally, the only game this season in which they failed to post at least 200 points.  The league scoring average in the Super 16 through Week 7 is 175 points per game, and the Who Dats have not only topped that in every game, but have scored north of 240 points in 4 of their 7 games and sport a 247 point per game average.  The scariest thing about this team is that, like the NFL Saints, they’ve been without their All-Pro starting quarterback for several weeks and should only get better.  Their quarterback returns this week, bad news for the AF Chairman’s Arizona Firebirds (4-3-0) who just missed the Top 25 with a ranking of AF#28 and are scheduled to face the Who Dats for a SimulPlay game this week.

After posting their lowest score in 18 consecutive games, last week’s number 1, London Falling (6-1-0) let the Mexico Aztecs (5-2-0) slide by them 67-69 in the World League’s Premier Match and with the loss, their Power Ranking dropped from 48 all the way down to 93, moving them down to AF#2.  It was a heartbreaking loss for London against the WFL Western Conference leading Aztecs, and they’ll have a tough time bouncing back, as week 8 brings AF#10 City of Champions (4-3-0) to town.  The match-up once more puts London into the league’s Premier World Match as City of Champions are the 2018 League Runners up, coached by a 2019 Pro Bowl Coach, and currently sit right behind Mexico for control of the conference.  (Read more about this blockbuster AF#2 vs AF#10 match here:  Dueling Seconds)

London and Milan are scheduled to face each other in Week 12 for what should be an incredible game.

As good as London has been, they’re not even in first place in the World League, with that distinction going to the Milan Wild Boars (7-0-0) who move up 2 spots to AF#3 in this week’s rankings, largely on the strength of their 111-66 mauling of the AF Stat Director’s Youngstown Mafia (3-4-0) last week.  Agressive off season trading, a stellar draft, and their undefeated record has propelled the Boars from a 10th place finish in 2018, to their current undefeated record and AF#3 ranking, and the future looks bright as they take on World League rookie Toronto Bandits (1-6-0) in Week 8.

Keepeing to the World League theme of this week’s Top 25, defending champion Old England Patriots (5-2-0) were the biggest mover in the rankings this week, moving 20 places up and landing at AF#18, in  the Top 25 for the first time this season.

The AF Top 25 and League Team Rankings are compiled weekly by AF Stats Department.  Although a team’s overall record is important, the rankings analyze multiple points of data including record, scoring, consistency and efficiency to draw comparisons of all Association League teams against each other across league boundaries, regardless of format.  When all data sets are tabulated and combined, they produce a Power Ranking for each team, ranging from a high of 15 (perfect score) to a low of  1635 (worst possible score).  The rankings are cumulative, and run through all the way to the end of the season.  You can see full details on our ranking methodology at the AF Top 25 FAQ Page.

A new feature debuting this week for the Top 25 is an updating scoreboard for all matches involving Top 25 teams so that teams on the Top 25 can keep an eye on how the competition is doing.  You can find this scoreboard on the right sidebar of the Top 25 Page (accessible by clicking the tab on right if you’re viewin on a mobile device).  On the Full Rankings Page you can view the complete scoring metrics in all categories for all 109 ranked AF Teams.
