The Western Front
All 4 clubs in the Super 16’s West Division are in the top half of the league – 3 of them in the top 5, and Week 7 is going to do a lot to separate the contenders from the pretenders. Just 2 years removed from their league championship, the Arizona Firebirds (3-3-0) are in last place in the division and looking down the road at quarterback issues, but the more immediate threat is their Week 7 match-up against the league’s always dangerous AF#21 Birds of Prey (4-2-0). 1 Eye Til I Die (4-2-0) is ranked 2nd in division thanks to a week 1 victory over the rival Broncs, but they’ve been relying on defense to pad their record, struggling to put up points as the 11th ranked team in the league in overall scoring, and Week 7 brings the league’s scoring leader (averaging 224 points per game) the AF#2 Who Dat Saints (5-1-0).
The real battle for this season’s Western War this week will be between the AF#9 SF’s BowMen (5-1-0) and the Dem Bucking Broncs (4-2-0) who just slipped out of the AF Top 25 to AF#29. BowMen are hoping to regroup after last week’s meltdown loss – their only one all season – against the #1 Who Dats, while the Broncs have won their last 3 in a row, though none by a margin of more than 17 points. Despite these two being the 2nd (BowMen) and 5th (Broncs) scoring teams in the league, Vegas is predicting a trench warfare type of match with an over/under of just 275 points, giving the edge to BowMen by a touchdown. Adding drama to the contest is the Broncs’ all-time winless (0-3) record against Bowmen coming up against the San Francisco Archers’ 3 year streak of week 7 losses.

The AF#9 SF’s BowMen bounced back from their week 6 loss to the AF#2 Who Dats, to handle business against a rising division rival, defeating the AF#29 Broncs, 172-149. The Bay City Archers have now established a 2 game margin in the West Division and may be headed to a Week 16 rematch with the Who Dats who also won this week, beating the BowMen’s 1 Eyed rivals. Arizona won their rematch with Birds of Prey to stay in the mix at 4-3, leaving the Birds in the unfamilliar territory of 3rd place in the South Division after WTF HOUSTON pulled off a half point victory in a SimulPlay vs Indy. Should that victory survive stat corrections, they’ll remain right on the Who Dats’ heels.
