Birds, Bruschis, and Broken Records

Birds and BruschisIt was a record setting weekend in the Super 16.  First, the Ice Cold Bruschis obliterated the previous S16 single game points record, trouncing the Super Chargers 294 – 152 in the Week 2 game of the week.  The 294 point total surpasses the previous #1 of 246.50 set by the Extreme Pain Rams in week 13 of last season.  Including the new record, Ice Cold Bruschis/Brady’s Bunch now have 4 of the top 20 all time single game point totals.  They take full control of the East Division with their 2-0 record, as the Eagle, Fins, and Jawbreakers each suffer week 2 defeats.

In the South Division, two active win-streaks collided as the H-Town Foster Kids and their 5 game win streak faced off against the Birds of Prey who were riding an 8 game regular season win streak.  The match was incredibly close – and we’ll be watching for stat corrections on Thursday – but with the 174 – 167 win, the Birds extend their streak to 9 games.  That brings them into a 3 way tie for all time win streaks ( with the Bruschis from 2012, and with themselves from 2013-14), and a win in week 3 against a division rival BIGDOG team that’s now minus their star receiver AND quarterback, the Birds would extend their winning streak to 10 straight regular season games for a new league record.  The Birds sit in control of the South with H-Town now at 1-1 and the hapless Who Dats at 0-2.  With an upset victory in Week 3, BIGDOGINTEX (1-1) would not only end the Birds streak, but would also move into first in the division.  To make it even more exciting, the game is a SimulPlay match
In other Week 2 action, the defending champs continue their slide, falling to 0-2 with a 168-188 loss to Arizona.  The rest of the ussually bruising North Division slides with the BEARMINATORS as both the Indy-structibles and the Motor City Kitties move to 0-2 with their losses as well.  The Dawg Pound, though, sits in full control of the division at 2-0 with their 186-117 victory over the Eagle.
The Firebird’s defeat over the BEARMINATORS was still not enough to wrest control of the West Division from the expansion BowMen, as the San Francisco squad easily dispatched the struggling Indy-strucibles 199-108.  1 Eye moves to .500 with a close win and the Super Chargers fall to 1-1 in their stunning defeat by the Bruschis.
Looking toward Week 3, here are our game of the week candidates:
Birds of Prey vs BIGDOGINTEX – (SimulPlay)The Birds can extend their win streak to 10 straight regular season games for sole possession of the league record with a win over their division rivals;  underdog BIGDOG can move into first in the division if they pull off the upset.
Arizona Firebirds vs SF’s BowMen – (SimulPlay) Control of the West Division hangs in the balance as these two 2-0 teams face off for the first time ever
