Saint Drew

SUPER 16 – There were angels in the backfield Monday night as the Who Dat Saints completed a come from behind victory over the Northern Fins in the Week 5 Game of the Week, retaining their hold on first in the South Division and 2nd overall in the Super 16.  With a final score of 206-182 it was the second consecutive victory over the Fins for the Saints since they lost to the Miami franchise in 2016’s Super Bowl V.  The Fins went ahead early in this one, and led through most of the game until the Who Dats’ hometeam starters took the field on MNF and rallied on the strength of 59 points from their franchise QB on a night when he broke the NFL’s career passing record.

In addition to breaking the NFL record for career passing yards on Monday Night (72,103), the Who Dat Saints‘ franchise QB holds a number of other significant passing records.

Advancing to 4-1-0, the S16’s Saints franchise controls things in the South, particularly after Division rival Birds of Prey dropped to 3-2-0 after losing big 158-234 to Steel Curtain in SimulPlay action.  In a Sunday Night Football SimulPlay Special, WTF HOUSTON beat BIGDOGINTEX in Week 5 194-121, leaving both teams 2-3-0;  they get a rare immediate round 2 as they face each other again in Week 6.

With their loss to the Saints, the Fins record falls to 3-2-0 and they drop into second place in the East, while Steel Curtains’ win over BoP gets them tied for 3rd with Geno’s Jaw Breakers who lost 176-197 to Eagle has landed.   Now on a 3 game win-streak, the Eagle (3-2-0), finds themselves as the unlikely division leader in the East despite havoing the lowest scoring total in the division.  All 4 East Division franchises are playing out of division games in Week 6, with Steel Curtain and Northern Fins drawing the statistically tougher opponents, leaving the door open for Eagle to extend their lead or for the Jaw Breakers to move up.

WRATH OF ODIN start the season 5-0-0; that’s only been done 3 times in league history – Birds of Prey (2012, 2015) and Ice Cold Bruschis (2015)

In a shocking upset in the West, 1 Eye Til I Die suffered their first defeat of the season, 185-220 against the Motor City Kitties (3-2-0) to drop to 4-1-0 in the standings, now 3rd in the league.  That leaves WRATH OF ODIN (5-0-0) as the last unbeaten team after they narrowly squeeked out a comeback win, 244-230 against division foe Dawg Pound (2-3-0).  The win gives them a two game sweep of the Dawgs, firming up their control of the North, while MCK’s win places them second in division but still 2 games back.  Back in the West, defending champion Arizona (2-2-0) took a SimulPlay win over SF’s BowMen (1-4-0) to pull into second behind 1 Eye – also two games back- and Dem Bucking Broncos (1-4-0) have gotten onto the boards with a 218-162 win over the Indy-structibles (1-4-0) to grab their firsrt win of the season.
