Wagging The Dawg
SUPER 16 – Fans are already calling this weekend’s action the “Week 4 Massacre” as underdog teams around the league not only pulled off upsets, but pulled off big, humiliating upsets in many cases, and while 1 Eye Til I Die’s victory in this week’s Game of the Week wasn’t exactly an upset, it was certainly big and humiliating as they destroyed The Dawg Pound 274-176 to bring the pair’s all time series even at 2 wins each. In one of the most lopsided GOW outcomes ever, the league’s Raider franchise pulled out to a lead early on in this one and never looked back, amassing a hundred point margin by the time the dust had settled on this brawl. Led on offense by a full cast of hometeam players that acounted for 121 points themselves, 1 Eye also had a big day on defense, with 6 defenders reaching double digit points. They advance to 4-0-0, 4th in the league in scoring, and in sole control of the West Division while the Dawgs are floundering at 2-2-0 after what had been a promising start.
Elsewhere in the league, the struggle was real, as 3 of what had been 5 remaining unbeaten teams went down in defeat. Perenial powerhouse Birds of Prey failed to succeed in a late comeback attempt against division foe, WTF HOUSTON. It was Houston’s first win of the season, while in-state division rival BIGDOGINTEX turned a few heads with their 286-158 beat down of the normally high flying Steel Curtain in a performance that places Big Dog in 4th on the Single Game Performance Record – right above Steel Curtain. In South Division rival Who Dat Saints’ game, it wasn’t even close as the league’s #1 scoring team coming into week 4 stumbled and were rolled over, 278-184 by Geno’s Jaw Breakers for their first loss, while the undefeated Northern Fins were outpaced late, 181-200 in a shootout with Eagle has landed to get their first mark in the loss column. The Fins are 3-1-0 now, while Eagle is 2-2-0 with the tiebreaker; Steel Curtain starts the season off 1-3-0, but their always a threat, and the 2-2-0 Jaw Breakers have quietly become the #2 scoring team in the league…….Sthe S16 East could turn into a circular firing squad this year.
The only undefeated team besides the Raiders from the West are now the Barbarians from the North after WRATH OF ODIN obliterated The Indy-structibles 245-89 in the most lopsided win in league history. It was an epic performance by Odin who could have scored more if several talented hometeam players hadn’t been stuck on the bench, still though, they got double digit scoring from 12 of 15 starting players in this one that was over by Thursday night. It was the 4th 200+ point performance in as many games by these Northern barbarians, including a 298 point week 2 score that was second highest in league history. The relocated Bears franchise is #1 in the league in scoring right now, averaging an unbelievable 245 points per game. That would put them on pace to turn in a regular season total about 700 points above the league all time record. Can they keep this rate of scoring up? They’ll get to pick on a reeling Dawg Pound squad next week where they’ll have a chance to really cement their control over the S16 North, followed by a relatively soft schedule over the coming weeks until they finally face off with 1 Eye Til I Die in a Week 12 mega-match,
