The Week 9 Premier Match was a replay of 2017’s Western Conference Championship

WORLD LEAGUE – in a rematch of last season’s Western Conference Championship game, the AF#8 Buenos Aires Blue Dogs (6-3-0) and the AF#15 Mexico Aztecs (6-3-0) faced off in the league’s Premier Match of week 9 and for the second consecutive time, the Blue Dogs have had the Aztecs’ number.  After Mexico took the lead early in the game, Buenos Aires overtook them on an Antonio Brown touchdown score and then never looked back, extending their lead to a 30 point margin that even the Aztec’s star tailback, Ezekiel Elliot, could not overcome in a failed Monday Night Football comeback attempt.  With a final score of 105-76, Mexico falls out of first place in the West for the first time all season as the Blue Dogs take over.  The Aztecs will drop all the way to third, also overtaken by City of Champions (6-3-0) who demolished Cali Rox (1-8-0) 133-61 to edge out Mexico for 2nd place.  With the top 3 teams in the West all sporting 6-3 records, 2018 is shaping up to be the opposite of last season where the strength seemed to be concentrated in the Eastern Conference.

First and second in the Eastern Conference have 6-3 records this week as well, one from a loss and the other from a win as the AF#13 Old England Patriots (6-3-0) racked up a historical top 5 score in their 156-114 performance over their biggest rival London Falling (3-6-0), in part, thanks to the 211/1 26 point stat line posted by their lead receiver, Michael Thomas, along with a 7

The Old England Patriots now lead the series 5-3 against their biggest rival, London Falling, including victories in the last four meetings straight.

touchdown total from just their QB Matt Ryan and lead halfback Alvin Kamara.  It was the third win in a row for the Patriots who are now the number 2 scoring club in the league, trailing the Blue Dogs by just 8 points.  The Jerusalem Cheeseheads (6-3-0) who had just clawed their way to the top of the standings, failed to secure a 7th win to stay ahead of England, losing 73-115 to the defending champion Scandinavian Stars (4-5-0).   The Dublin Bay Prawns (5-4-0) round out the Eastern Conference’s top 3, but lost in week 9 in a massive 119-60 point upset to the Milan Wild Boars (4-5-0).  If the season were to end this week, however, since it’s based on total scoring,it would be Scandinavia grabbing the Eastern Conference wild card spot.

Four weeks of the regular season remain, and because of the league’s Points Wild Card format, no team is officially eliminated from contention, although at this point, it would take a miracle for either the Arizona Thunderbirds (2-7-0; 821.050) or Cali Rox (1-8-0; 745.99) to make a post season run.  It’s wide open, though for the other teams in the league; even last place London in the East, is third in conference in scoring, giving them the inside track at the same wild card spot they took in the 2017 season.
