Sanford Celeryfeds lead the East, tied with the Florida Jesters 2-0-0

Dixie Logo red,white,blueDIXIE – The Sanford Celeryfeds out of central Florida dominated Week 1 in The Dixie, sweeping their double header with a league high 7 touchdowns.  They dominated Flat Rock in the early game, winning by a margin of 16 – 4, but had their hands full in the second leg of their doubleheader against the Houston Africans, narrowly pulling out a 16-15 victory after a Monday Night rally by their kicker.  They will face their in-state rival Florida Jesters, playing out of Sarasota, in Week 2, along with a double header match-up with the Westfield Bombers.  The league veteran Jesters also swept their match-ups in Week 1, defeating the 2015 Western League Champion Black Hats,  15-13, and then the Bombers by 15-11.  The Celeryfeds and Jesters both stand atop the Eastern League at 2-0 and this early season showdown will be watched with much anticipation around the league.

Little Rock Radio Flyers lead the West 1-0-1

seat after defeating Birmingham 13-10 but being unable to suppress some late scoring by New Orleans in their afternoon game, finishing with a 13-13 tie.  Little Rock, along with Houston, had a scoring correction this week as the league offices ruled  that a half-sack recorded by each team would not be counted towards their score because of the league’s prohibition on fractional scoring.  The half point would have given the Radio Flyers a second win, but nonetheless, Little Rock still leads the western League standings with their 1-0-1 record.  Next week they’ll warm up vs the 0-2 Carolina Rebels before a tough one against the Andalusia Arrows who split their matches this week in a 12 run effort.
